PSSSSSSST.......Do ya like cows?? Just wondering because if you do like cows...Clovis is the place for you! Of course, it goes without saying that you must also like high winds and the marvelous aroma they blow into your house every day, again, from the cows!
The military sent us to be stationed here at Cannon Air Force Base in Clovis, New Mexico, in November 1997. Being that hubby and I are both from Ohio to say we are coming to know a whole new way of life is simply an understatement!
We do have farms in Ohio and surrounding states but normally there are some trees and greenery. In Clovis, even the trees look like tumbleweeds! If you don't believe me, check out this tree in our backyard. I call it our "tumbleweed" or "broom" tree.
Speaking of tumbleweeds, we have plenty of those also! Many times you have to dodge gigantic ones, lest they send your car into a ditch, or even worse, to the car repair shop. A rather humorous site is to see owners driving about with a tumbleweed decorating the underside of their vehicle.
I don't want to discourage anyone who might read this and are currently holding orders to our base in their hands. I strongly believe it's all what you make it. Anyone who's been military long enough knows this to be true.
We've made some good friends here and our oldest son is in school. So, for now this is home. We remind ourselves we are together as a family and that is most important. Prior to this, daddy was remote in Korea for a year and that was no fun at all!
So, if you recently received orders or are planning to travel this way, send us an email. We'll tell you as much as we can about the base and the surroundings and we really will try to be positive about it all! :o)
The Good Old Days

Dedicated to My Dad and Brothers
When I was back in the good old days.
I used to sit and relax in the good clean hay.
I’d sit in the hay and relax awhile.
And then I would have to shovel the pile.
The pile was the cows’ dumping spot.
And I’ll tell you, what
That pile did rot!
You’d shovel awhile at the black covered floor,
And before you knew it, they were dumping some more.
I shoveled and shoveled and shoveled awhile.
I’d like to never get done with the pile.
I was up to my knees in the awful black stuff.
I thought I’d shoveled and shoveled enough!
I finally got done with the big old pile.
But there stood the bull
With almost a smile.
There he stood dumping a good long while.
And the rest of the cows standing in dumping file.
