An adaptation of Sun Tzu's Chinese classic, The Art of War, with a 180-degree twist. Large (62KB) and may be slow to load.
Leading on from the Art of Peace, reflections based on a brief experience with sailing boats.
The Journey in Four Directions - Ways of Becoming in Everyday Life
An account of the approaches I have found helpful in bringing about change in my life. I have expanded these pages into a book, which I hope to have published if I can find anyone who's interested in doing so.
A course I put together out of ideas from various authors who had helped me to think of things in a new way. I've never run it; if you would like to, please contact me, and we can work out some arrangements.
A liturgical meditation based partly on my concept of the Journey in Four Directions, and partly on the Five Wounds of Christ on the cross.
The Tale of Little Huw and the Giants
A pseudo-ethnic folktale. Some have objected to the violence - the hero, they say, seems to think nothing of mugging people and stealing their clothes. I think they've overlooked the conventions of the genre. Judge for yourself.
The first few chapters of a possible novel, set in a city where the conventions of Carnival apply all year round - and everyone must be treated as if their mask is their reality.
An art piece created for my church's Easter exhibition, Stations of the Cross, April
1998.
About the piece.
Two photographs in an unusual format, and what I think is an interesting juxtaposition.
A poem based on 1 Peter 1:18-19, originally published in Today's Christian No. 3 (September/October 1988) under the pseudonym Allon Mitchell. (I had an article in the same issue, and didn't want to seem ubiquitous.)
A rather medieval-style reflection on the cross, written in July 1998 (I had been reading some medieval poetry).
A complement to my piece on Unanswered Prayer. It may end up longer.
I have to fence this one round with disclaimers. I've never belonged to a church like this, though I know people who have. It's not based on any one church. And yes, I feel like the Pharisee in the temple, thanking God that my church isn't like that - our flaws are right out in the open ;-}. (January 1999)
21 Haiku on the Gospel of Thomas
A friend gave me the Gospel of Thomas (early non-canonical gospel) to read, and it just cried out to be made into haiku.
I Do Not Know (Why He Whom Angels Worship)
A recrafting of the hymn "I Cannot Tell" by W.Y. Fullerton, No. 183 in the Baptist Hymn Book, which is sung to the tune of the Londonderry Air.
The Ready Room: A Play of Archangels in Two Acts
Feedback is welcome on this piece. In particular, I'm dissatisfied with the ending - it's too quick. There is also very little stage action, and it might work best as a radio play.
It has been produced a couple of times - once in Japanese by a Japanese-speaking church in Oregon. The wonders of Net publishing.
A brief sketch in the style of Monty Python.
