Hamlet and Shakespeare Links

These links take you to pages about the play and the playwright (who you ask?) himself.

Hamlet

Hamlet Cartoon
  1. The Hamlet Home Page. This excellent site includes the complete text and analysis on various aspects of the play. It also has images from Branagh's and Olivier's Hamlets.
  2. A Short Course on Shakespeare's Hamlet. Along with the text & summary of this play, this site also contains questions & answers concerning various aspects of the play. There is also a discussion forum.
  3. Hamlet, simplified. A bit of a spiced up alternative to Cliff's Notes and quite fun to read. It begins, "Is it a dark and stormy night? Not quite but the guards Bernardo and Francisco are nervous. And what kind of Danish names are those? Weren't these guys supposed to be descendants of Vikings? What happened to those great names these guys had in Beowulf? Names like Scyld or Unferth or Breca or Hrothgar. Those were names I'd expect a Dane to have." There is also a version of Macbeth.
  4. The First Quarto Hamlet. Also known as the "bad" Quarto, and for good reason. Famous quotes include "to be or not to be, aye there's the point" and (my personal favourite) "why what a dunghill idiote slave am I?"
  5. Hamlet in Chinese. This is just one of many different Chinese translations of Hamlet. You'll need a Chinese decoder in order to view it though. Believe me, you *don't* want to know what the phonetic translation of Hamlet really means. :)
  6. Titles from Hamlet. Ever wanted to know how many book titles that famous line from Hamlet spawned? Check here for lists of books ranging from anthropology to zoology that got their titles from this play.
  7. A Night in Elsinore. Richard Nathan's knee-slapping funny parody of the not-so-gloomy Dane. Groucho Marx parodied in the title role.

Shakespeare

  1. Mr. William Shakespeare and the Internet. Links to zillions of resources on the web about Shakespeare, his works, criticism, educational resources, and so on and so forth.
  2. MIT Shakespeare Homepage. This site contains the complete works set out in a friendly format with links within the text to a glossary.
  3. The Plays of William Shakespeare. Also contains the complete works along with search engine, character guide, and glossary.
  4. Shakespeare Illustrated. A vast collection of drawings and paintings inspired by the works of Shakespeare.
  5. The Daily Telegiraffe. Articles, reviews, essays, and up-to-date news on, principally, the works of Kenneth B. There are also tidbits on Shakespeare and British theatre.
  6. Royal Shakespeare Company. The official website of the world's premier performers of Shakespeare's works (in my opinion, of course). Check out the latest news, production schedules, and even order your theatre tickets.
