The original
Faculty of Engineering, University of Indonesia was located in
Bandung. For management and other reasons, this
faculty then separated from the university and
became an independent institution called Institut Teknologi Bandung (Bandung
Institute of Technology). |
| 1964 |
 |
Five
years after the separation of the original FTUI,
on July 17 1964, a Faculty of Engineering located in
Jakarta was founded. The first dean was Prof. Dr.
Ir. R. Rooseno, assisted by Ir. Sutami as
Assistant Dean on Academic Affairs, Ir. Bratanata
as Assistant Dean on Administrative Affairs, and
Dr. Ing. Purnomosidhi H. as Assistant Dean on
Student Affairs.
There was
only three departments then, civil engineering with Ir. Sutami
as the first head of the department, mechanical engineering with Ir. Ahmad
Sajoeti as the head of the department, and electrical engineering with Ir. Hadi
Noto as the head of the department.
The first
class started on 17 October 1964. |

New
departments were founded, metallurgy with Dr. Ing.
Purnomosidhi H. as the head of the departments
and architecture with Ir. Sunaryo
S. as the head of the department. |
| 1970 |
 |
On late
December 1970, 18 students had succeeded as the
first graduates from FTUI. Until 1997, more than
6000 people had graduates from FTUI. |
| 1976 |
 |
A
technology institution - Lembaga Teknologi FTUI (LTFTUI) was
founded. It's a professional institution, with
full support by experts from each departments in
FTUI. LTFTUI has done many cooperations with
other professional institutions, such as ELMES,
APARC, etc; goverment institutions, such as BPPT,
Cipta Karya, Otorita Batam, etc; and professional
associations, such as IAI, PII, HANKI, INKINDO,
HATI, etc. |
| 1985 |

A new department
was founded as a result of the unification of two
majors in Metallurgy and Mechanical Departments.
The new departments is called Gas
& Petrochemical Department. |
| 1993 |
 |
FTUI
started extension programs to help experienced
professionals who already have diploma in
engineering to get their degree in engineering.
Post graduate programs for master degree have also
been started. |
