Fuel Tank, Oil Pressure and Oil Temperature Gauges

The 6 Gauges at the topeof he Co-Pilots Instrument Panel are not well placed for the pilot, and not always as accurate as one would like.

The 2 Fuel Gauges (far left) will indicate the state of the tank selected on the Fuel Management Console and the gauges shown are not hugely reliable.

The Pilot is advised to do his or her own fuel computations at all stages of the journey, which will be at least as reliable a guide to how much fuel remains in the tanks as the above gauges!

The Oil Pressure Gauges (centre) are reliable and a good guide to engine performance. Drops in oil pressure represent a serious emergency.

The Oil Temperature Gauges (far right) tend to over-read, and in any case are not easily seen by the pilot since the view from the left hand seat is affected by a considerable degree of parallax.

That being said, they should be monitored as part of pre-flight and in-flight checks, and should certainly be cross checked againt the CHT gauges and the EGT gauges, as well as the oil pressure gauges above
