USS INDIANA BB-58 DATA BASE



Beginning 23 August 1991, Benjamin M. Givens, Jr., FM & E Divisions, has developed the data base format; and researched the Ship's Log, Action Reports, Quarterly Muster Lists, Monthly Reports of Personnel Changes, Social Security Death Index, and 4 questionnaires. From this research he has compiled and maintains the records of the 33 item Computer Data Base for the 5,653 men who served on the Battleship USS Indiana (BB-58) from the time it was placed in Commission at Norfolk, VA on 30 April 1942, until the USS Indiana was placed in Commission In Reserve at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, WA on 11 September 1946.

Started data base at Washington Reunion, 23 August 1991

First used MAILALL program

Received new Desktop computer, 24 September 1992

Used PC File program, 20 March 1993 to 09 May 1993

Bought Paradox on 28 April 1993, transferred files from PC File to Paradox 03 May 1993

First entered names from Cruise Book by Division (01sf, etc.), starting 03 May 1993

Entered 480 names from 15 Sept 1992 Reunion List received from Ensley on 10 June 1993

Merged all separate division files (sf) from Cruise Book, 1,994 names

Added prior and new names to Ensley Reunion List, 1,119 names

Merged all Cruise Book division files (1,994 names) with Ensley Reunion List (1,119 names), eliminated duplicates which resulted in 2,443, names (indreusf) 30 Aug, 1993
