August
14, 2005- Any type of game could have done justice for BFL Bowl
VIII after the semi final games that the BFL had in 2005. However,
in BFL Bowl VIII, the Falcons (5-0) and the Hustlers (4-2) put on
quite a show in front of a record setting crowd of 25 at BFL Bowl
VIII. This game was one of the greatest games ever played from start
to finish.
It
was a over cast day and humid beyond belief, but two teams that
were on a role faced off in this one. It started off with the Hustlers
scoring first. Howie Gogo, then connected with Ross to tie the score
at 7. This was Howie's 7th BFL Bowl start at QB.
The
game felt like a chess match, one mistake could prove costly in
a game with teams like these. The two teams kept exchanging scores
throughout the first half. The teams were patient with the football
and driving the ball down the field.
Trailing
28-21, Ross took a chance down field. Akil made one of the most
acrobatic interceptions the BFL has seen, as he dove through mid
air to get infront of a ball that would have tied the score had
he not gotten there.
Akil
then scored on the next drive. He soon had a 16 point lead, 37-21.
All the momentum was with the Hustlers. But Ross was determined
to fight back. He did just that scoring a touchdown and a 2 point
conversion. As the half wound down, Ross completed an amazing two
point conversion covering the length of the field. The Hustlers
lead by 7, 44-37 at the half.
The
rest of the way, the teams exchanged touchdowns the whole way. Late
in the 4th quarter, the Hustlers scored a big touchdown and took
a 72-65 lead with only a few seconds on the clock. Ross needed a
big play and got it. And as time ran out, the Falcons scored a big
touchdown to tie the score at 72 as time ran out in regualation.
Then
in the first overtime, the Falcons scored a two pointer. Akil matched
him with a two of his own. Then in double overtime, the Hustlers
could have applyed big pressure with a 3 pointer. Howie's pass went
right through AKil's hands. He settled for a 1. And on the final
play of the game, Ross caught a 2 pointer to win the game 76-75
in double overtime!
The
Falcons are the BFL Bowl VIII champions.
Notes:
-The Falcons are the first team to go undefeated since the Sparrows
in 1999.
-Rosses 5-0 record is the best in history.
-This is the 2nd BFL Bowl to go to Double overtime. (BFL Bowl IV)
-The 16 point comeback is the largest in BFL Bowl History.
-The attendance of 25 is a BFL record for largest attendance.
