Leichhardt Council moved a motion on 28 August 2001 against the proposed Bus Depot Expansion. Here is the relevant text of the motion:

SRA BALMAIN ROAD DEVELOPMENT SITE LEICHHARDT

C215/01 RESOLVED PILKINTON/CRUDEN

That Council resolve the following:

2.6 to write to the Premier's Department and:

i) express its support for improved public transport to this municipality and advise that Council supports the expansion of the light rail to meet up with the heavy rail and further into the city to facilitate this imporvement.

ii) opposes the expansion of the bus depot on this site because this site is inappropriate for an expanded bus depot as this expansion will have an extremely detrimental noise, air pollution and safety impact on surrounding residences.

ii) supports and alternative site for the Leichhardt bus depot which will isolate it from residential areas.

2.7 That the playing field for Leichhardt High School be created expeditiously and separate from the Master Planning Process.
