In a conversation with residents, Leichhardt Councillor Kate Butler said ``The State Transit proposal [for the access road] is the worst possible scenario. Such levels of traffic have never been imposed on residents and there is no reason why it should be imposed now.''

Outspoken Independent Councillor Hall Greenland commented: ``Any changes to the depot must not be at the expense of the residential amenity of neighbours."

In an email to residents, Councillor Carol McVeigh said she, too, was against the depot proposal. ``I will be opposing any changes that affect the residents in the vicinity of the depot,''

Mayor Maire Sheehan said she was concerned about the ``likely intensity'' of the DA and its impacts on the community. ``I am also concerned overall that the buses are consolidating on that site as I believe the Rozelle goods yards are a better location for their activities,'' she said in an email to one resident.

Deputy Mayor Jamie Parker said in a statement to the press``While I am absolutely in favour of improving public transport, it is unreasonable to inflict what would inevitably be unbearable levels of noise, traffic and pollution on residents.''

Spokesperson representing residents opposed to the development Tim Stackpool said "if successful, the access road will render yet more area on the site useless than for any other purpose other than the expansion of the depot, consequently adding more direct noise and pollution to the residents and the local high school. That's why residents are opposed to this application"
