Chapter 5: Complications
Michele and Nick parted, breathless and shaking. Michele could not believe what had just happened. It wasn't like her to kiss someone she wasn't dating. And the guy she had hated, of all people. Although, she didn't hate him anymore, it didn't excuse her out-of-character behaviour. She slowly raised her eyes to meet Nick's. His blue eyes were staring back at her. She didn't know what to think. She was waiting for him to say something.

Nick finally smiled at her, and she relaxed. His smile had that effect on her. "Wow..." Nick said, still smiling. Nick saw Michele in a whole new light. She really did have a wild, passionate side. He couldn't fathom what he had just did. He had made out with Michele. The fact that he betrayed Jennifer hadn't even entered his mind. Yet.

Michele smiled back at him. "That was really nice. And fun," she admitted guiltily. Michele would never have guessed that she would find the perfect guy for her in Nick. Then, she remembered their pact. "This isn't going to leave this room is it?" she asked, trying not to sound disappointed.

At the mention of the outside world, Nick suddenly realized what he had done. "Oh SHIT!" he cried, jumping up from the ground. He began pacing back and forth.

"What? What's wrong?" Michele asked, unaware of the third party involved.

"Uh, yeah... this definitely doesn't leave here," Nick said distractedly.

"WHAT is going on?" demanded Michele.

Nick took a deep breath. "Well, there's a slight problem..."

"Uh huh..." she urged.

"... called cheating."

"Oh." Michele replied. She then put it together and exclaimed. "WAIT! You mean you had a girlfriend?!"

"HAVE a girlfriend," replied Nick meekly.

"Are you sure Nick is at Jen's?" asked Melissa. She had come over after work to see Howie.

"Well, no," admitted Howie. "But that's what Bri and I assumed."

"So why don't you guys call her place to find out? It's getting late and it would be nice to make sure Nick was safe," Melissa reasoned. Howie kissed Melissa. "You're so thoughtful," he said to her.

"Okay, we could call Jen's place. But I don't wanna disturb anything, if ya know what I mean," Brian laughed.

"Fair enough... then go ask Alex downstairs! She's Jen's roommate and she just left from there," suggested Melissa.

"Good idea!" Brian exclaimed, as he leapt up from his spot on Howie's bedroom floor.

"Now that he's gone..." Howie whispered in her ear.

"Howie!" she smiled. "He could be back any second!"

"Fine..." he laughed in defeat.

Brian found Alexandra in the kitchen, waiting for the popcorn in the microwave.

"Hey Lex," he greeted. It was a little awkward around her because he knew she used to like him before she started dating Kevin.

"Oh, hey Brian. What's up?" she smiled politely.

"Was Nick over at your place with Jen?"

"No, why? You're looking for him TOO!? I heard Jen get frustrated that she couldn't get a hold of him..."

"Get a hold of who?" Kevin asked, as he walked into the kitchen.

"Nick! Brian and Jen are both looking for him," explained Alex.

"Yeah, who was this ‘friend' that was gonna give him a ride anyway?" wondered Brian.

Kevin thought back, "Oh yeah! Dud, I forgot to tell ya... it was Orianne!"

"WHAT!? Nick's at my girlfriend's place? She didn't mention he was with her..." fumed Brian.

"Nick told me not to tell ya she was at Ikea too cause you wouldn't have left if you found her..." Kevin explained. "So call Orianne and clarify everything."

"Okay..." Brian agreed reluctantly. He dialed the familiar numbers and heard his girlfriend pick up. "Hey sweetie," he said.

"Hi baby, what's up?"

"Are you busy?"

"Just on the other line with Kaitlyn, what's wrong?" she asked, getting worried.

"Is Nick with you?" Brian bluntly asked.

"Nick? No, why? You said a friend was gonna give him a ride home... he's not home yet?!"

"Apparently YOU were the ‘friend' that was to drive him," he said, then explained the entire story from what he knew. He waited as Orianne clicked onto the otherl ine to ask Kaitlyn.

"Brian?" she said as she got back to him. "Kaitlyn said that Michele's not home yet either. She had just called her place five minutes ago."

"So Nick could've gotten a ride with her...? But Michele's not home yet either..."

"Nick and Michele don't get along at all! Oh! OH NO! They could be stuck in the store! Michele had run back to use the bathroom right before the store was going to close!" Orianne recalled.

"So those two are trapped in the store, by themselves?" Brian asked.

"Yup... this should be disastrous."
