Chapter 10: Sightings
Jennifer awoke the next morning to a pounding headache. She got up and took some painkillers. She hadn't slept very well in the night. She just knew there was something odd going on with Nick and Michele, despite Orianne's disbelief. She got dressed and decided to go out for the day. She wasn't going to spend a nice day stuck inside, waiting for Nick to call. If he really wanted to talk to her, he would call her cell phone, she figured. She grabbed a quick bite to eat and headed out to the mall.

The moment Kaitlyn woke up, she called Michele to warn her of Jennifer's suspicions, but she got Michele's answering machine instead. Kaitlyn looked at her clock. 10:00am. She was awake and out of the house already?! After the familiar "beep", she left Michele a brief but urgent message: "Mich? It's Kait. PLEASE call me as soon as possible! I think Jennifer is on to something. Talk to you soon!"

Kaitlyn hung up and paced her room nervously. She didn't know why she was so nervous. It wasn't like this had anything to do with her. But it was, in a way. She knew both sides of the story. Well, two sides... she didn't know what was going on with Nick. And there was no easy way of asking him either, she didn't know him very well.

"I'm so glad you were up early!" Orianne told Michele. "I wanted to go have breakfast and a bit of shopping before I met up with Brian later."

"No problem! I wasn't doing anything particularly interesting at home anyway," Michele replied. She had just been daydreaming about Nick when Orianne had called to invite her out. Orianne decided to not mention Jennifer's opinions to Michele just yet. She didn't want to cause any more unnecessary tension between her friends. The girls ate at a little café-style eatery at the mall and then headed over to the shops.

Two hours and many purchases later, they sat at a bench waiting fro Brian to arrive. Orianne spotted her boyfriend approaching. With Nick. ‘Crap,' she thought. She gave Michele and apologetic look but realized Michele wasn't even looking at her. She was looking at the guys.

Orianne ran over to Brian and kissed him. While she hugged him, she noticed Nick had sat down next to Michele, and they were talking quietly and subtly, but talking nonetheless. Orianne raised an eyebrow at this odd spectacle. She hugged Brian again and whispered to him the short version of everything that was happening and Brian subtly turned to look at the two who were supposedly "enemies".

***************

Jennifer felt better after doing some shopping. She had forgotten all about Nick for the past few hours. Just as she finished that thought, she caught sight of Orianne, Brian and Nick, talking to Michele. "What the hell is going on?!" she mumbled under her breath. She debated whether or not to confront him but decided against it. She didn't want to cause a scene in public. Suddenly, Jennifer wasn't in the mood to shop anymore and so she headed back the way she had come in and drove home in a huff.

"Hey baby," A.J. said to Jamie when he opened the door. He kissed her and they headed up to his room.

"So what's the big secret?" Jamie inquired. A.J. had been very mysterious and wouldn't tell her over the phone. He held up his index finger as he peeked into Nick's room. "Ssh..." He took her hand and led her to his own room and closed the door. "Okay, this is between us alright? I don't want to be responsible for starting something."

"A.J. please just tell me! I'm getting worried!" Jamie told him.

"Okay, well, last night after I said goodnight to you, I headed upstairs and walked by Nick's room. I overheard him talking to someone and it sounded like something happened between him and Michele..." he paused, waiting for her reaction.

She looked at him curiously. "Something? Like they got into a fight?"

A.J. smiled. "No..." he stressed, looking at Jamie.

"Oh!" she cried, when she realized what he meant. "Really!?! NO WAY!!"

"That's what it sounded like..." he replied.

"Ohmygod... this is huge! Does Jennifer know!? Does anyone know??"

"Not that I know of... and that's why it's better to keep it between us. For now at least."

"Wow..." Jamie said in disbelief. "This is as unbelievable as... as the most oddest thing ever!"

"I know... that's why it's such a good secret. Nobody will see that coming. I mean, those two hated each other. Who would have thought they would hook up!? Who would BELIEVE it!?"
