Chapter 7
The next morning, I woke up not really sure what to expect. I mean, that past night was a little strange and I was still a little shaken up by the whole thing. I sat up and noticed that Nick was missing. “Nick?” I said. No answer. “Nick, are you here?” Still no answer. I got up and checked the house. No sign of him. I ran up the stairs to the third floor. This is where he keeps the video games. He wasn’t there either. “Oh no, I hope he’s ok!” I said racing down the stairs. I ran to the first floor and into the kitchen. He was no where in the house. “Where could he be?” I asked myself. I decided to check and see if his car was in the garage. I opened the door and ran out and looked. Yeah, there it was. Just then a neighbor walked out of her house.

“Mrs. Robinson!” I shouted. She turned and looked at me.

”Oh hello, Bethany. What’s wrong?”

“I. . . I. . . I can’t find Nick. He’s gone. I searched the whole house, and he’s gone. His car is still here, and there’s no note.”

“Well, I haven’t seen him. I did see a few fans this morning, but nothing unusual.”

“Oh my god! This is not like him at all! He knows I’m paranoid about Sam, and I know he’d leave a note if he went anywhere.”

“Well, I don’t know what to say. If I see anything I’ll let you know.”

“Thanks, I’m going to check the basement. He goes down there to practice, but I didn’t hear him.” I thanked her and ran inside and down the stairs to the basement. “Nick! Where are you?” I screamed starting to cry. “Oh my god, where are you?” I didn’t see him anywhere. I looked in everything and anywhere he could hide or be hidden but he was nowhere to be found. Crying frantically, I ran upstairs and called JJ.

“Hello?”

“JJ?”

“Yeah.”

“Oh JJ, this is Bethany. I... I... I...”

“Bethany, calm down, what’s wrong?”

“I can’t find Nick.”

“What?!”

“He’s gone. He’s not in the house, and his car is in the driveway.”

“All of them?”

“Yes, except the Camaro, which Jane has. But I searched the whole house, and he’s not here. I’m so scared, JJ!”

“I know, Bethany, please stop crying, and try to stay calm.”

“I’m trying. I hope he’s ok!”

“Me too, do you want me to come over?”

“Yeah, please?”

“Ok, I’ll be over in five minutes.”

“Ok.” I hung up the phone and started crying harder. Then about five minutes later, JJ pulled up in the driveway and knocked on the door. I got up and opened it.

“Oh Bethany!” JJ said hugging me. “I’m so sorry!”

“I can’t believe he’s gone!”

“Oh Bethany, he has to be around here somewhere. He would never leave without telling you or writing a note. This is so unlike him. Did you call the neighbors?”

“No, but I talked to Mary, and she said that she didn’t see anything. Oh JJ, I’m so scared! I don’t know what to do! What if Sam got to him? What if he’s dead!?”

“He’s not dead, he can’t be.”

“Oh, I hope so! I really, really hope so!”

“Well, me too, but we have to do something! I’m not sure what, but we have do to something!”

“Is AJ at the house by any chance?”

“Yeah, he was in the shower when I left.”

“Oh ok, so he’s not out somewhere with the guys?”

“Oh Beth, I don’t know. Should we call Sergeant Jones?”

“I think so.” I got up and picked up the phone and dialed the number. It rang twice.

”Sergeant Jones speaking.”

“Sergeant Jones, this is Bethany Collins. I came in last night and gave you information about the Smith case.”

“Oh yes, Miss Collins, what can I do for you? You sound like you’re crying. Is anything the matter?”

“Yes, I can’t find my boyfriend. He’s not at the house; I checked all three floors. There’s no note, nothing, and all his cars are here.”

“Well, has he ever done this before?”

“No sir, he always leaves notes. He’s very good about that.”

“Well, we’ll check it out, but in the meantime, we found a location on that Sam Smith. He won’t talk to anyone but you, though.”

“Oh great, well, I hate to be rude, but I don’t want to worry about that right now. I just want to find Nick!”

“Ok, well I don’t blame you. I’ll call you if I hear anything, and keep looking. You might want to make sure he’s not tied up somewhere in the house, so check everything.”

“Ok, will do, thanks sergeant!”

“No problem.” I hung up. “He said to search the house up and down in case Nick’s tied up somewhere.”

“Ok, let’s go. I hope we find him.”

“So do I, so do I. Just please let him be alive!”
