Chapter 8: Common Interests
After Jenny guessed that about a half an hour had passed, and still no talking was going on, she started to fog up the window with her breath and draw small pictures on it. Her breathing was rather loud in the quiet, causing the Boys to stare at her. Jenny didn't notice anything other than her drawings that she was working on. It wasn't long before the drawings bored the all the guys, except Nick that is.

Being that he loved drawing, he found other people's drawing quite interesting. At the moment, Jenny was working on a girl with an odd hairstyle, two kind of odangos atop her head. It wasn't the hair, however, but the way Jenny drew the eyes that caught Nick's attention. They were the type of eyes that an animé artist would draw for a japanimation.

"Hey! Is that a japanimation you're drawin'?" Nick asked, pointing at the image on the glass. Jenny looked at him in surprise.

"Actually, yeah. It is. You're into animé?" Jenny returned. A few snorts came from some of the others. Jenny looked around feeling embarrassed.

"Uh, that's a yes. I love to draw. Did you know that me and da fellas got our own comic book?" Jenny just shook her head. "Yeah, well we do. And I help to draw it. Stan Lee. He's da guy that is doin' it, mostly, though. Still, it was my idea." Nick looked extremely proud over that last statement.

Jenny was actually impressed that the guy had some talent in something other than making girls swoon. Well, MOST girls. As much as she hated asking what she knew was about to come out of her mouth, for it would show interest on her part, she let it out anyways. "Can I see some of your work?" Nick seemed delighted to show off his art, and told her to wait a minute so he could go get some sketches.
As if I could go anywhere while he was gone, Jenny thought.

"Here is a pretty recent one. It was just a sketch I made on da European leg o' da tour. I like to draw a lot in ma free time on da road. I even work on some new scenes for da next comic book, sometimes. I can't letcha see d'ose, though. It's gotta be a sa'prise," Nick said as he showed her a rather impressive drawing of what appeared to be some powerful robot type thing, once he had returned. Jenny didn't particularly like the subject of the picture, but admitted to herself that it was a good drawing.

"It's, uh, good. Do you have a lot of drawings like this?" Nick nodded, looking proud. "I like to draw as often as the mood strikes me. I don't do it all that often, though. Oh, and about the comic book. I haven't even seen the first one, so showing me the drawings of the next one wouldn't ruin anything since I don't know what I'm looking at."

"I can let you see da first book sometime. If you'd like. And, if you don't mind, could you draw something for me, like on paper? I would really like ta see how good ya're," Nick said, with embarrassment setting in as soon as it was all out. Jenny really didn't feel like drawing a picture for this guy, and wanted to tell him so. Thinking it over for a moment, and sighing the whole time, Jenny finally decided to give it a go. Not like she had anything else better to do.

"Sure. Why not?" she shrugged.

"Sweet! I will getcha some paper and a pencil, k?" Nick said. She nodded to let him know she had heard him. As soon as he was gone to the other end of the bus, she started drumming her fingers very loudly on the table.

"Don't like 'im?" Brian laughed. Jenny felt like glaring, but decided not to this time.

"Ah, well. He's alright. I'm just not feeling too enthusiastic about this whole tour ahead." Brian was ready to ask why, and Jenny knew it. Before Brian could start, though, Jenny asked something else. "So, um, what's his name? And, well, what's yours, too?" Brian sat there and stared, shocked.

His staring was making Jenny uneasy. She shifted around in her seat a little, realizing how stupid her question must have sounded to him. Brian snapped out of it and leaned in to whisper.

"You aren't a fan of ours, are you?"

"No, of course I am!" Jenny countered, nervously. Brian motioned for her to be quiet.

"No, you aren't. Your friends. This was their idea wasn't it?" She nodded slowly. "Do you still wanna do this then?" There it was! Her chance to say "no" and get out of there! So why did she suddenly want to say that she DID want to do it. Almost more than anything.
I'll go with my instincts I guess. I just hope it's the right thing, Jenny said to herself. She looked back up at Brian and smiled a "yes".

"I'm doin' this. You're not getting rid of me.”

Why does she look so relieved that she is going to stay?
Brian thought. And why does she make it sound like staying with us is going to be some big ordeal? Just then Nick walked back in with paper and pencils, all excited. Well, maybe it will be. With Nick acting like this.

"Nick, yo. She only needs one pencil and one piece of paper to make a drawing," Brian laughed.

"Well. She might need more than one pencil if she draws a lot. Besides, maybe she will draw more than one picture," Nick suggested. Brian rolled his eyes. Jenny felt like doing the same, and then started work on her drawing. She already knew what she was going to draw.
Well, his name is Nick. What about the others? And that one who knows that I'm not a fan, now? Will he tell the others? What am I getting myself into?! Jenny's thoughts flew through her mind as the drawing started to appear in front of her. It was a depressing sight. And it fit her mood perfectly.

It was a girl chained to a wall.
