Sarg 1 - Naarad Jee Visits Vaalmeeki Jee Once Naarad Jee visited Rishi Vaalmeeki Jee. Vaalmeeki asked Naarad Jee - "Who is the most virtuous, brave, follower of Dharm and obliged feeling person today? Who is that keeps his promises and does not seek fault in others, and even Devtaa are scared of him?" Naarad Jee got very happy to hear these words, he said affectionately - "Hey Vaalmeeki Jee, Although all these qualities are very difficult to get in one person, still there is one. He is known as Raam in this world. He has all the qualities which you can think of. He protects people like Brahmaa, He is brave like Vishnu, He is beautiful like Moon, His anger is like Pralay fire, He sacrifices like Kuber, and He is very loving to His father." Then He described His life account to Vaalmeeki Jee in brief. Vaalmeeki Jee got very happy to hear that life account. And Naarad Jee went to His Lok. Sarg 2 - Vaalmeeki Jee Creates First Poetry, Brahmaa Jee Visits Him One day Vaalmeeki Jee went to the banks of Tamasaa River with his disciples. Seeing a clean place, there he expressed his desire to take bath. His disciple Muni Bharadwaaj brought his clothes. Vaalmeeki Jee was just looking around, that he saw a pair of Kraunch bird which was singing happily and was engaged in love act. The then a bird-hunter shot an arrow at one of them, and the male bird fell down dead. The female bird started crying in separation of her husband. Muni got moved to see this and a couplet came out of his mouth - Maanishaad
Pratishthaan Twamgamah Shaashwateeh Samah "Hey Vyaadh, You go from this world immediately as you have killed the male bird engaged in love act." Vaalmeeki Jee himself was very surprised at his poetry. He said to his disciples - "My couplet is divided in four parts and its all parts have the same number of syllables, it can be sung and it has come out of Shok (sorrow and grief), therefore this Chhand should be called Shlok. It is the first Shlok in worldly Chhand. Before this there were only divine Chhand. How I uttered it, I myself don't know." They all came back after taking bath, but Vaalmeeki Jee could not forget this incident. He continued to think over it. At the same time the Creator Brahmaa Jee came to Vaalmeeki Jee's Aashram. Vaalmeeki Jee immediately stood up, welcomed Him, worshipped Him and asked His welfare. But still he was thinking about that incident and was lost in his thinking. Brahmaa Jee started laughing at Muni's condition and said - "Whatever you have said, it will be regarded as Shlok. And all this has happened with my inspiration. Now you write the life story of Shree Raam. You will know everything about Him and his secret or known life events. There will be nothing like lie in your work and it will remain popular until these mountains and rivers are there in this world." And Brahmaa Jee disappeared after saying this. Then Vaalmeeki Jee wrote 24,000 Shlok for this Raamaayan.
