Sarg 48 - Ahilyaa Uddhaar - 1

Sumati asked about Raam and Lakshman - "Hey Muni, Who are these princes who walk on these difficult paths with their soft feet? Whose princes are these and what is the purpose of their coming here? Please tell me." Vishwaamitra Jee said - "They are the princes of Raajaa Dashrath." Then Raajaa Sumati respected them appropriately. Then Muni started towards Janak Puree. On the way they saw an Aashram in a large forest.

Raam asked - "Whose Aashram is this? Nobody seems to live here. Kindly tell me everything about it." Vishwaamitra Jee said - "Listen Raam, Now I tell you the story of this Aashram. This Aashram belongs to Muni Gautam. He did Tapasyaa here with his wife Ahilyaa. This Aashram was called Dev Sthaan (a place to live for Devtaa). 

Once in the absence of Muni, Indra took Muni's form and came to Ahilyaa and said - "Devee, I am attracted to your beauty, so I want to have you." Ahilyaa recognized Him as Indra, but still she agreed and fulfilled His desire. Then she said - "Now you go soon because Maharshi must be coming soon." Hearing this as Indra started to leave the place, the then Maharshi entered the Aashram.

Indra got frightened to see Muni. Muni said - "You have taken my form with a bad intention, so I give you Shaap that your testicles should fall on the ground." As Maharshi gave Shaap to Indra, His testicles fell on the ground. Seeing this Indra fell on Maharshi's feet and asked for his forgiveness. Maharshi gave Shaap to Ahilyaa also - "You do Tapasyaa for thousands of years living here, eat Vaayu, and sleep on ashes. You cannot sleep while anyone is present there. Thus you pass your time. When Shree Raam will come here  in this forest, then you will become sinless after having His Darshan. At that time I will return your beauty to you which will be kept with me till then." Saying thus, Gautam went to Himvaan Parvat to do Tapasyaa.

Sarg 49 - Ahilyaa Uddhaar - 2

After Indra's testicles had fallen, He went to Agni etc Devtaa and said - "I disturbed Maharshi Gautam's Tapasyaa to do Devtaa's work, therefore you should protect me. You must change my condition." Seeing His bad condition, all Devtaa with Marut etc went to Pitar Dev and said - "You have the testicles of sheep, give them to Him, because He does not have any." Pitar gave Him sheep's testicles and Devtaa made Indra all right by implanting them to His.

Vishwaamitra Jee further said - "Hey Raam, Now you go to Maharshi's Aashram and do the Uddhaar of Ahilyaa - his wife." Raam went in the Aashram with Lakshman and saw that Devee Ahilyaa whose radiance was spreading all around. She was not seen to everybody because of Maharshi's Shaap. She was covered with dust. When her Shaap was over, they could see her. Raam and Lakshman touched her feet. She greeted them. All - Raam, Lakshman and Muni Gautam - got happy to see Ahilyaa in her former form.
