The Dark Island
Written by Tony Williamson | Directed by Cyril Frankel

Prologue
Richard and Craig are at a gold course. Craig tees off and scores a hole in one with ease. Another golfer watches this display in shock. Richard then hits the ball, but instead of rolling into the hole, the ball strikes the flag - missing by a inch. Richard hands over some money to Craig, the winner of their bet.

"A contest, a game of skill, but for Craig Stirling and Richard Barrett, endowed with the senses and qualities of super humans, even the relaxation of golf takes on a new meaning. When they and Sharron Macready crashed in the snows of Tibet and encountered the lost people, they could not even imagine the powers they would be given. But as operators of the international agency of Nemesis they are able to use those powers to their best advantage as the Champions of law, order and justice."

Synopsis
When a third agent, Whithers, fails to return from a tropical island in the Pacific, the Nemesis trio is sent to investigate. Richard lands by parachute, Sharron and Craig arrive posing as the husband and wife, victims of a ship wreck. Richard soon discovers a missile installation, slave labourers, and a plot to start a third world war. Max Kellor, who runs the operation, suspects Sharron and Craig are spies when Richard is captured, thinking they are working together. They are held prisoner while Kellor prepares, along with the Chinese helping him, to start world war three, with the US and USSR destroying each other in the process.

Review
This plot is the most used in the series, plans by some madman to start World War III by using a nuclear weapon. This has been used in "The Search", "The Final Countdown" and to a lesser extent in "Project Zero". Though each episode was different and used other original plot devices, the basic premise is the same. In Project Zero, the weapon used was different but the plan to wipe out the superpowers through nuclear war is the same. "The Dark Island" however ends too much like "The Search", which makes it too predicable and no great thrills were at the end. The main excitement was in the lead up to the climax.

Some good humour is evident again, thanks to Richard. When waiting in the plane about to parachute on to the island, the pilot asks him if he had ever done any skydiving before, Richard replies, "I took a correspondance course". When Richard breaks a chain as if it were paper, the astonished Withers says "how the heck did you do that?!". "I've led a pure life", Richard says.

The first half of the episode is very good, but no surprises are in stall for the audience in the climax, which is how it should be.
