The Experiment
Written by Tony Williamson | Directed by Cyril Frankel

Prologue
Richard and Craig make a wrestling match more interesting - they do it blindfolded!

"Craig Stirling and Richard Barrett, devisors of their own ways to test the qualities and skills they have been given. Qualities and skills both physical and mental to the peak of human performance. Gifts given to them, and their colleague Sharron Macready, by an unknown race of people in a lost city in Tibet. Qualities and skills of the dimensions of super humans, gifts that are a secret to be closely guarded. A secret that enables them to use their powers to their best advantage as Champions of law, order and justice. Operators of the international agency of Nemesis."

Synopsis
By speeding up four people's brain activity and reaction times, power-mad scientist, Cranmore, tries to create superhumans to equal the Nemesis trio. Sharron is tricked into taking part in the experiment by a man posing as a DI6 officer who is working with approval from Tremayne. Craig and Richard are tricked into breaking in to where Sharron is located as the plan devised by Cranmore who wants to study all three agents. When he discovers their secrets, he will kill them.

Review
A really interesting episode, full of small odities which suggest Nemesis and Tremayne actually do know the Champions' secret abilties. Tremayne sends Sharron on leave, making sure Craig and Richard do not know, with the intention of having Sharron investigated. Though we don't fully know what Tremayne's real knowledge is of the Cranmore's secret experiment laboratory, it is suggested that maybe he has some idea of what is about to take place. The very last line spoken by Sharron in the episode maybe is a small hint at how the three consider their situation after the events that have just taken place.

The relationship in the intelligence community between Nemesis and the other organisations is brought up by Sharron. She remarks that she thought British intelligence disapproved of Nemesis, and is surprised at the co-operation of the other intelligence agencies - CIA, MI5 et al - with her own agency on the "experiement". Cranmore knows a lot about Sharron, she admits to Craig and Richard later that he knows everything. Does this mean Cranmore has been assisted by Nemesis? Afterall, he was able to obtain classified details about her movements and history, and that of Richard and Craig. Sharron however is smart enough to keep some secrets from him, in particular - how she and the others attained their talents.

This is a "Sharron episode", so for the only time in the series we are told about her personal details, though not her age. Her ID number is 506601, she has degrees in Medicine and Biology (althought we already knew that from "The Beginning"), and she plays Tennis, Squash, Golf and Mahgon. Her other pastime is studying architecture (see "The Night People").

Some good humour between Richard and Craig (as usual) is evident. As they enter a pub, Richard asks Craig what he'll have. Craig replies "a scotch on the rocks", Richard quickly replies - "You'll have a half a pint of bitter, and like it!" Craig is also quite happy to let Richard pay for the drinks.

There's also a great scene when the man allegedly from DI6 assasinates a previous super human. The final show-down between the Champions and the four experimental superbeings is also great.
