The Lestathenaeum - Specs and Essays

This page is reserved for Speculative Fiction, Poetry, and Scholarly works pertaining to Lestat and co. If you'd like to submit a story or an essay, feel free, but please read the guidelines at the bottom of the page before doing so.

Note: These specs are intended purely for fun. I know that Anne has made a recent statement asking fic writers to please cease and desist, but I don't really see anything I have listed on this site as being in violation of her request. I realize that Anne is very possessive of her characters, and rightfully so, therefore, no copyright infringment and/or insult to Anne's characters is intended. This is purely for enjoyment, and I do hope you enjoy it.

Silly Specs

Rolling Stone Interview: The Vampire LestatThe Vampire Lestat's long lost Rolling Stone Interview. Hilariously funny and ingeniously written.
The Late Late Show With The Vampire LestatLestat, lover of the spotlight that he is, has his own late-night talk show. Hands down, the funniest VC spec I've ever seen. In-jokes abound!
'Twas a Vampire's ChristmasSpend the holidays with Louis and Lestat. Cute and extremely funny!
AuditionsLestat and Co. hold auditions for a new VC villain. Funny and clever.
Interview in the MatrixThis is a parody on two of my favorite things, The Vampire Chronicles and the movie "The Matrix", and it's basically just a scene in the movie, done Lestat and Louis-style.
Lestat and Louis At The MoviesLestat and Louis review "Interview With The Vampire" in a parody of a Siskel and Ebert type show. My second spec.
Ex LibrisLestat, Louis, and Armand wander into the New Orleans Barnes and Noble. Wackiness ensues. My third spec.

Anne Rice Interviews, Chat Transcripts, & Book Excerpts

Amazon.com AR InterviewAn interview with Anne Rice mostly concerning the release of the latest entry in the VC, "Merrick."
B&N AR ChatAnne discusses "Merrick", the rest of her books, and the effect her work's had on others.
Anne on "Blood and Gold"Pretty self explanatory. Anne discusses her newest book [as of Fall 2001] at length, as well as some upcoming film/tv adaptations of her books.
"Blood and Gold" ExcerptChapter One of "Blood and Gold."

Poetry, Essays, and Misc. Vampire Fiction

Interview With The Vampire ScriptComplete "Interview" script. Not the script used in the movie, but the script that was intended to be used. Completely official.....as far as I know ;-)
Devil On My ShoulderA poem I wrote about what Lestat means to me.
DesireThis is a song written by (who is in my opinion the greatest group ever) Toad the Wet Sprocket. Now, I don't think this was written about Lestat, and I never even made the connection between the lyrics and the Brat Prince myself, but in the Toad Lyric Interpretation Gallery, someone submitted an analysis of the song "Desire" and stated how it perfectly fit Lestat. I think that after reading it, you'll probably agree.
Beauties and BeastsThe paper I wrote for the American Horror Fiction class I took during the summer of 1999. The paper (which is 10 pages long), examines the shift in the types of literary vampires, from Bram Stoker's "Dracula" to Anne Rice's "Interview With The Vampire" and "The Vampire Lestat." It's a little rough around the edges, mostly because I rushed writing it (half out of excitement over the topic, half because it was just a four week course), but it's still probably my favorite paper out of my college career, and I can honestly say it's the most fun I've had doing academic work. I'd love feedback on it too.
Geek To ChicThis is a comical short story I wrote one bored afternoon after watching one too many talk shows. I got to thinking about all of those shows where people sort of go on TV to tell former bullies "Look at me now!", and I thought it would be kind of funny to see what would happen if a vampire did just that. I would love feedback on the story too.

Do you have a spec, essay, or poem that you would like to see on this site? If so, E-mail it to me. Please attach specs/essays/poems/etc. as .txt files.

Due to the request Anne has made concerning fics/specs, I will no longer be accepting dramatic pieces (involving the VC. General fiction of any type is fine). I'm going to limit submissions to the comical stuff I have listed on the site (read it if you need an idea of what I'm talking about) because I see these pieces as being tantamount to Saturday Night Live skits, which in my opinion do not violate copyright laws in any way. I do not want to get in any sort of legal trouble, and seeing as how dramatic/serious sort of stories are the closest thing I can see to "ripping off Anne's idea" I just won't be accepting them anymore. Sorry for the inconvenience.
