The Lestathenaeum - Mission Statement

What Lestat Means To Me
(In the shortest amount of words possible)

Yes, the Vampire Lestat is technically a fictional character (and I say technically only because he is very real in Anne Rice's mind, and I don't want to offend him if he should be reading this...), but this fictional character holds some very real meaning for many, many people. Lestat, for me, is the complete antithesis of everything that I stand for. I am shy, quiet, reserved, self-conscious, and afraid of quite a few things. That's not to say that these are bad quailities, because they're human qualities and they help make up the person I am, which consequently, I'm very happy with. But, let's face it, they can be a real pain in the ass sometimes. I think we'd all like to be able to laugh in the face of danger, or to stare down the devil, to live forever and always be beautiful. However, we can't all have that (unless we're very famous, very rich, and pretty well crazy). Characters like Lestat enable the less socially outspoken folk such as myself a chance to know what it feels like to do and say whatever we want without consequence. Lestat is a way for me to embrace my dark side without actually having to go over the edge myself. He's the part of us that we either don't acknowledge because we're afraid to or don't acknowledge because we don't even know it's there; he is the physical embodiment of Freud's id. It's like Anne said, Lestat is the person I'd want to be if I was given the chance.

As far as my intentions in the creation of this site, I wanted an outlet through which I could express my admiration for the character and the books, while at the same time presenting information that might be of use to others just as obsessed as I am, or to newbies just starting out. I know the site isn't as fancy or as visually arresting as some of the others out there, but I hope the content serves its purpose.

Long Live Lestat!
