WHITEY (CONT'D)
So now tnight, Ladies n Gents, I
am most pleased t intrduce on ther
long-awaited return engagement t
Whiteys Blooze Bar, direct from the
Windy City t our own Indy City,...
(with enthusiasm)
Blind Brother Dex and The Seeing-Eye
Dogs!
COVER SHOT: As Whitey leaves the stage, only one drunken
Regular APPLAUDS-one beat per second. The rest of the
Regulars remain indifferent.
WEXLER
(off-mic)
Yeah, up yers, Whitey!
WHITEY
(off-mic)
Yeah, up yers, Wexler! Im countin
them pretzels there!
SHOT CONTINUES: BLIND BROTHER DEX AND THE SEEING-EYE DOGS
ENTER. First on the stage is harmonica player ASTIGMATIC
HARPO MARX, wearing thick-lensed glasses. Next is BLIND
BROTHER DEX, who wears dark glasses, and carries a white-
tipped cane and a guitar. He is followed by the bassist and
drummer, NEAR-SIGHTED NATE and TUNNEL-VISION VINCE, who also
wear thick-lensed specs. Everyone blunders to his place:
Blind B.D. to a stool center-stage, harmonica player to one
side, bass player on the other, drummer in back. But when
Blind B.D. gets positioned on his stool, he is facing the
bassist, not the disinterested audience.
MS: Blind B.D. sweeps the air for his microphone, but his
hand connects with the peghead of the bass. He speaks to the
peghead.
BLIND BROTHER DEX
(off-mic)
Hey, were sure glad t be back here
in Naptown....
FOUR-SHOT: At first the myopic Dogs are oblivious to Blind
B.D.s disorientation. But then Harpo finally sees that Blind
B.D. is off-target. Harpo turns Blind B.D. so hes facing
his microphone.
BLIND BROTHER DEX (CONT'D)
(on-mic, continuing)
...Havent played here since that
wrongful restroom incident back in
Eighty-Eight.
