Anak Arao

(Arao's Kids)

In October of last year Mr. Danilo Arao of the Journalism Department of the College of Mass Communications (CMC) became an instant father with the arrival of his Journ 196 Online Seminar class.

Danny Arao

Sir Arao is one of few budding advocacy journalists in the country. Ever since the uprising that toppled the previous administration last year, advocacy in the country has taken an online turn. This is what he tries to teach us at the University of the Philippines (UP). That technology can be made a tool of the disadvantaged to better their way of life. He has recently finished his masters degree at the De La Salle University. For this and for the completion of this website, we congratulate and thank you sir.

In alphabetical order here are his adopted children (anak arao):

G.H. Ambat

If Helen of Troy has the face that launched a thousand ships, G.H. is the name that launched a thousand questions. No, her name is not an acronym for general Hospital, Greogorio Helena or Grant Hill. G.H. is just G.H.

Anissa Apolinario

This girl has definitely set her sights on a career in print and not just in any newspaper, Anish was last year's recipient of a Philippine Daily Inquirer (PDI) scholarship. This year, she graduates from UP with Phi Kappa Phi honor society destinctions. She is editor and chief of the Journ Club's publication and is most frequently seen together with another of this site's staffers... Anissa Apolinario, remember the name. She's sure to make the frontpage bylines of the most widely read Philippine broadsheet.

Betsy Arvesu & Jessica Fulgencio

One hardly sees Betsy without Jessica in tow. Or is it the other way around? This inseparable duo comes to class and leaves together. This is because like BR and Myla, Betsy and Jess are roommates. They were the only ones who started J 196 with foreknowledge of the yet to come, because of previous web authoring skills acquired in Sir Arao's "Writing for Popular Audiences J109" class.

Desiree May C. Diangson

Des is a real go-getter kinda girl. She knows what she wants and she moves towards that direction. She will often be spotted with her bf Peter. They have been together for a 100 years now. This is probably what keeps her from looking haggard from beating deadlines. We know her sportive attitude will get her far in life someday.

BR Guirela

Last year, BR and Myla had the experience of their lives when riding a jeep while on an internship at PDI they were hijacked. Fortunately, there was only one bejeweled lady in the vehicle who was stripped of her treasures, but BR once related how this event made it second nature to think. "Hey this is a news story happening right here." It seems she has quite a nose for news and some other fragrances such as (Orlando) bloom(s).

Ronald Panis

These days one will find Ronald Panis in pains (pun intended) over his thesis. Fortunately he has the support of a precious friend in the group. It looks like love is in the air. Ronald has shown much promise in graphics design and headline writing. Not only did he draft the Bungang_arao logo he thought of the name during our first class brainstorming meeting.

Darwin "Darla" Sauler

People who do not know Darla might be taken aback by the impression of her strong character. But only temporarily as this is merely to mask a golden heart. Perhaps what Darla would like most of all is recognition and acceptance. Darla graduates this year as the Phi Kappa Phi honor society member who astounded an entire audience with a gown worthy of a glitzier ocassion, such as the Famas. With Darla around how can there ever be a dull moment?

Myla Torres

Don't let her pseudonym "Ice Queen" fool you. Her disarming smile is bound to melt the most frigid of hearts. Myla, unlike BR feels the papers might not be the way to go. Magazines are what she hopes to work on after this April. If her feminine wardrobe has anything to say to Vogue and Mega editors, we're sure she'll make not only the staffbox but the covers as well.

Nicole Tigno

Nicky is currently interning at Agence France Presse where she is having a blast of a time discovering how ethically uplifting wire agency practices are. However, she thinks that despite the big pay, the job's graveyard shifts and 0 holidays may pose a bit of a problem as a career in the future. But that won't be an issue until next year March when she finally graduates.

Anna Yap

Sister Anna Yap is in Journ school with a mission. And in a month or so she will be starting back home to Malaysia where hopefully she can help put into practice all she has learned. Recently she initiated uploads for our Entertainment Articles. What sister Anna thought most challenging in the beginning (HTML) has turned out to be a cinch.

Aymi Ylagan

Aymi is a real worker. She hold a regular job along with her studies and lives on the fringes of nearby Metro Manila provinces. And yet she has managed to beat her upload deadlines. Here's a girl who knows how to deliver.
