CLUB OF
ANARCHISTS
About the Work:
The Comedy is a satire to "mineiros" [of Minas
Gerais] politicians, many of which were considered as anarchists by the
author. The action takes place at the Legislative Assembly of the Province
of Minas Gerais, Brazil. The back-cloth is the period of the Regencies,
which had been one of the most turbulent, marked by uncoutable riots and
revolutions. The play was printed, as a book, in Barbacena, MG, Brazil,
in 1838, at the graphic workshop of the biweekly newspaper O PARAHYBUNA
and performed in Ouro Preto [Black Gold], the capital of the Province
of Minas Gerais, Brazil, in this same year, deserving many favorable comments.
