Manager claims Arab team wants EJ Feihl Edward Joseph Feihl, speaking through his agent-manager Nonie Mediarito, reiterated yesterday that he will not play in the Philippine Basketball Association this season if it is for Ginebra San Miguel. Mediarito said that if no other PBA team is interested in Feihl, the seven-foot center will probably play abroad, in one of the Arab countries. He said a scout from the United Arab Emirates has gotten in touch with him asking for Feihl and the possibility of his client playing in commercial league there. But some observers are now skeptical of Mediarito's pronouncements. He angered some mediamen when he floated the news that Feihl might be traded to San Miguel Beer. Both San Miguel and Ginebra denied there was any such talk. Then he announced that Feihl went to Hong Kong for a brief vacation when in fact the player was in town and even scrimmaged with Shell. Yesterday, Mediarito said in a telephone interview that a certain Draft Young is offering the 25-year old cager a stint in a commercial league in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Ginebra is currently in Cebu for a series of exhibition matches
but team manager Monchet Carballo said before leaving last
Wednesday that they are still hoping to save the stalled
negotiations. "Wala pang bagong plano," Carballo said. "Gusto
lang talaga naming siyang makaharap." Feihl was with his
manager at a shopping mall in Mandaluyong during the interview
but refused to give any comments. -NOEL RODRIGUEZ
