VIRTUAL NEWTOWN!

Hardly a theatre of dreams these days, but Newtown Park, home of Bo'ness United F.C., has seen over a century of football since its opening in 1888. Newtown was formerly the home of Bo'ness F.C., forerunners of Bo'ness United and champions of the Scottish Football League Second Division in 1926/27, and in its day has held crowds of over 18,000 and played host to such clubs as Rangers and Celtic.
The ground has seen better times - once the envy of many a junior team, the tall floodlights are now gone and the stand is unsafe for use, although the end of the 1999/00 season did see the opening of a new enclosure, which Newtown had been without for nearly three years after the condemnation of the old one by the council.
The old south stand which still dominates Newtown, even though it is unsafe for spectators. Underneath it are the players' dressing rooms.

The new enclosure, opened at the end of the 1999/00 season. Never mind that it looks like the constructors forgot to use a spirit level - it keeps the rain off.

The terracing at the east end of the ground. Not highly favoured by spectators, but the ones here will have got a good view of Paul McKinlay scoring from the penalty spot against Arniston.

The west end of the ground, which is simply a grassy bank. Popular on sunny days, or all year round for young rascals who find this the best way to get in without paying.

...Of course, they should really pay at one of the gates, such as this one (to the right of the picture) in the south-west corner.

And no - the 24 hour Online NewtownCam is not available just yet.

Thanks to Jim Muirhead of Arniston Rangers F.C. for these pictures.
