Bo'ness United (colours, blue shirts with white shorts), have won the Scottish Junior Cup three times (what I consider to be, to Scottish Junior clubs, what the European Champions Cup is to major European clubs) - in 1948, 1976 and 1984. In pre-war times, they also spent some years in the senior Scottish League,
as Bo'ness F.C. (founded in 1875, and merged with Bo'ness Cadora in 1945 to join the
junior set-up). Newtown Park has been used since 1888 as the home
of the town's premier football team.
Unfortunately, success has not been forthcoming in recent years: they have not enjoyed a good cup run for some years, and have failed to win their championship, the East Region John Walker Division One, for over thirty years.
The task of restoring the club to greatness currently lies with manager John Sludden, an ex-Celtic player, who has attempted to get the side playing attractive, passing football which has not always achieved success in the rough and tumble of Scottish Junior football. Nor has it attained favour with many of the old geezers on the terraces, who quickly become impatient if the ball is not launched fifty yards forward within three seconds of a player gaining possession.
