| JC smoothed the wrinkles from his shirt, looking at his reflection in the mirror. He took a deep breath before the door was knocked on. "Come in," he called over his shoulder. Tony stuck his head in the door. "Five minutes." JC looked at him through the mirror. "Ok, thanks." Tony nodded in response and began to close the door. "Wait, Ton." "Yeah?" he asked, sticking his head back in the door frame. JC swallowed hard before he spoke. "Is Lindsey gonna watch the performance?" Tony frowned. He glanced around the hall, then let himself in JC's dressing room. "I don't know," he said quietly, shutting the door behind him. "She was pissed because of the whole Nikki thing that you went through - and you of all people know that she is not gonna wait forever for you get get your head out of your ass. I don't think she's gonna actually stick around on set to watch it, being that she's done with all her scenes." JC groaned. "I know... I guess I just wanted her to see it. Is she in her dressing room?" "Yeah, but we have to get on the set now before someone yells." JC sighed again and watched Tony run out of the dressing room. As he was turning to leave, he caught the photos of him and his castmates on the edge of the mirror. He paused for a moment while he ran his eyes over them... Picture of him and Tony, him giving Tony a headlock... Him and Justin and Britney... Britney and Christina... Him and Lindsey and Jennifer... Him and Lindsey... Him and his ex girlfriend Nikki... He grabbed the photo and turned to walk out of the room. Within seconds, the photo was torn in half and was falling toward the garbage can. ~*~*~ JC stood on the side of the set, his back to a wall. Lindsey was nowhere to be found, her dressing room was locked and the light was off. The director of the show had told JC that she had left the set without saying a word, just swinging her car keys by the keychain. Therefore, JC knew she wasn't going to be in the audience for this performance. He ran his hands through his hair, and bringing them to his face, he realized they were shaking. He was much more nervous about this performance than usual; having Lindsey in the audience or watching from the side of the set usually calmed his nerves quite a bit. She was always there for him, his best friend besides Tony and Dale. His best girl friend by far; yet he chose to go out with Nikki. Nikki was wrong for him, in every way... She was controlling and she was bitchy. Lindsey tolerated her, they were never really friends... And Nikki resented Lindsey to a certain extent because she was better friends with JC than Nikki ever could be. Even though they dated, JC and Nikki were never really that close - they were a so-called "hot item" on the set, but when the little red light on the camera was off, and they were forced to actually do things together... That was a different story entirely. Their relationship ended when Nikki's contract with MMC ran up. They hadn't spoken a whole lot since her last show, and JC was determined to keep it that way. Lindsey was the shoulder he cried on when Nikki broke his heart; he thought it would be easy when he saw her with some other guy, but it was harder than expected. As bitchy as she was, she still managed to win him over in the first place and steal his heart. He didn't realize he was putting Lindsey through hell until Tony informed him that she liked him "more than a friend." JC bit his lip in anticipation of the performance as he walked onto the set while Rhona announced him and Tony. He sat down at the stool just as the audience began to applaud. He took a deep breath and looked from the floor to the audience - and he suddenly spotted Lindsey standing on the balcony before him with audience members. She was holding her jacket in one hand, her car keys in the other. She had a grin on her face. JC smiled before he began to sing. Whenever I'm weary From the battles that raged in my head You made sense of madness When my sanity hangs by a thread I lose my way, but still you Seem to understand Now and Forever, I will be your man Sometimes I just hold you Too caught up in me to see I'm holding a fortune That heaven has given to me I'll try to show you Each and every way I can Now and Forever, I will be your man Now I can rest my worries And always be sure That I won't be alone, anymore If I'd only known you were there All the time, All this time... Lindsey was leaning on the edge of the balcony, the smile on her face genuine. JC grinned just looking at her. Until the day the ocean Doesn't touch the sand Now and Forever I will be your man Lindsey was gone by the time he opened his eyes at the end of the song. JC had no idea where she was, and was dissappointed. He would have to talk to her that night, if he could get a hold of her; she was constantly driving around Buena Vista somewhere. He trudged back to his dressing room, opened the door, closed it and leaned his forehead against it. He closed his eyes, trying to figure out what to do about Lindsey, what he would tell her. "JC." JC spun around. Lindsey was sitting on the couch, her jacket and car keys sitting on a nearby table. "Lindsey. Linds, you have no idea how sorry I am for-" "Don't say anything," she said with a smile, standing up and walking over to JC. "I know how much Nikki meant to you." "Yeah, but you have to know something... No matter how much I thought she meant to me... You always meant more." |
