Chuck Murphy (New Lebanon, New York, USA) writes "During the seventies I was a huge fan of the Heep. I particularly loved the classic lineup from Demons on to Wonderworld. They were a great, and underrated, combination of terrific musicianship and wonderful harmony singing. I'm listening to Demons as I write this -- Paradise/The Spell is one of my favorite songs of all time. Although I haven't noticed the band in my part of America since the mid-eighties, I would love to see them again. Keep rocking guys, and thanks for the great memories!"
Mike Johnson (Bad Aibling, Germany) writes "This was the first album of the band that I heard and it was great then (1977) and the CD today is still great. The music makes me think about life and passing through it. While some people (the unwashed few) have used the bands songs and name to be associated with devil worship I associate the themes of the music to life in general. Who among us don't face a demon of some sort and wizards who solve problems in other cases. I love the band's music and am trying to pick up cd's of the bands music (vinyl is nice but age does catch up)."
Octavio Ibarra (Aguascalientes, Mexico) writes "A very great album! I can listen to it without getting enough! The Wizard, Traveller in Time, Easy Living, Poet's Justice, Circle of Hands, and The Rainbow Demon are my favourite tunes. Essential stuff in any private Uriah Heep fan collection. Every Uriah Heep album is a terrific experience, but the ones from the classic Heep period (1970-1976) are the best to me.
Demons and Wizards is a fantastic 8 tracked album that contains most of my favorite Heep stuff. The Wizard, Traveller in Time, the classic Easy Livin', Circle of Hands and Rainbow Demon are pure Heep dynamite! I really love the way Byron sings those songs his voice is clear and strong (up with David, wherever he is!) This is really a Heep's ID! "
Emily Schneider (Greenfield, Indiana, USA) writes "Man your music is awesome. Trust me I don't lie. It is truely awesome. I asked what his fav band was it was you guys. I got the cd for him and I love it. As much as he does. I really like the song The Wizard. The begining is awesome. I want to be in a band just like yours. If you can give me any tips on how to write songs could you help me. Also what is the easiest way to learn to play the guitar. I just got one for Christmas. I have wrote a couple of songs, but my brothers say they aren't good enough. Well I have to go so thanks for your time."
James Mynes (Akron, Ohio, USA) writes "This is clearly my favorite Heep album of all time. I am still kicked in the teeth by it everytime I listen to it, even after almost 28 years. I was 13 the first time I listened and I still listen to it at least once a week. Definitely one of the most kick ass recordings ever done. As a matter of fact,I have the Wizard from the cover tattooed on my right calve."
Scott Fleming (Brisbane, Australia) writes "This album in my opinion does it for Heep, from the first track to the last. My favorite song without a doubt has to be Circle of Hands, the emotional voice of David Byron, to the massive build up of the Hammond and guitars. Although Easy Livin is a good tune it's not my favorite. Paradise/The Spell finishes off this brilliant album. No other band in history has touched deep inside my soul, and no other album has brought chills up my spine. The classic line up will never be replaced or bettered. I am and proud to be a Heep fan, I have all the albums and have been blessed to see the band 4 times in my life. Keep on rockin boys with many more albums to come."
Tiago Marion Camargo (Osasco, São Paulo, Brasil) writes "It's my favorite album from Uriah Heep and it is a font of inspiration to me to create songs to my band. David's voice at Cicle of Hands, The Wizard and at all of them is simply amazing, even my mother stay emotionated when she hear Paradise. We are waiting a Uriah Heep show here in Brasil, I hope it hapens soon."
Morto (Johannesburg, South Africa) writes
"This was my most recent purchase. (The fact that I am buying music CD's with money
alone shows my love for the music... :) )
And I myself think it's the best one I've got.
Other than my words of praise, and the fact that my pockets are empty.... (
I'm a little twurp with not job :) )
I can't say enough how much I enjoy this album. **wishes Uriah
Heep would come back to SA... sigh.... **
Anyway, Morto out... cheers."
Nils Vollrath (Forchheim, Germany) writes "If I were on a deserted island and had a pick of 3 albums Demons and Wizards would be one of them."
Anita Steves (Garden Grove, California, US) writes "They all still kick ass!! I loved em' in the 70's as well as today! I am in southern CA and it looks like I will have to order it or drive to LA to get it. Oh well it 's only 30 mins. away...traffic bites!!"
Hans Langedyk (Collingwood, Ontario, Canada) writes "Undoubtedly one of the Heeps' best albums, I've been singing the songs of Uriah Heep in my band, Fallen Angels, for years now and I never tire of them. Thanks Boys!"
Conceptual, dos claros temas bien estructurados (como "A day in the life / Woke up..."). Quiero resaltar el hermoso pasaje de quitarra con un fondo coral al medio del tema, cosas logradas sólo por Génesis, Crimson o PFM."
Roger Gößmann (Schweinfurt, Germany) writes "DEMONS AND WIZARDS is the album with the most classic songs on it: The Wizard, Traveller In Time, Easy Livin' and Circle Of Hands. The overall sound has improved. Very good production and mix concerning the... technology."
Rob Buff (Cherryville, North Carolina, US) writes "I am a bass player. My biggest influence when I was starting out was Gary Thain - Demons & Wizards and The Magician's Birthday. The bass lines on those two still move me today as they did when I was 13! The music of Uriah Heep is timeless!"
Diana Lindholm
(Vällingby, Stockholm, Sweden)
writes "Heep to me means joy! Their music is of that type that no one else can
copy, especially the Byron days. You can spot a Heep song by miles. I love the theme
songs they used to make and all the mystic behind the lyrics and sound, not to mention
the harmonies they used to do! I just love them! Demons & Wizards is my
all time favourite album but I think Sea of Light is the best one since the
Byron time. Heep's music is timeless!"
Lasse Lundberg (Falun, Sweden) writes
"Demons & Wizards is still the best although some of the new stuff is
OK too!"
Luis Guillermo Torres Gómez (Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico)
writes "I knew Uriah Heep a long time ago, an old friend lend me some records. My
favourite albums are Demons and Wizards,
Salisbury and
The Best or greatest hits. I didn't know that they are still playing
together."
Brad Duren (Oklahoma, US) writes "Classic all
the way around. I am one of the few who doesn't care for Paradise/The Spell.
Rainbow Demon and Poet's Justice are superb songs. Thain and
Kerslake really jam on this album. The definitive versions of some of these songs are on
Live 1973, although I still think this version of Easy Livin'
rules!"
Zikri Fadzil (Georgetown, Penang/Malaysia)
writes "In my years of appreciating Uriah Heep, DEMONS AND WIZARDS
is the album of my soul especially PARADISE/THE SPELL. These 2 will take me somewhere I don't know but it a wonderful
feeling deep inside me and towards the end of THE SPELL, I can be so angry
with expression on my face!"
Dale Fredericks (Moorpark, California, US) writes
"As far as Heep albums, my favorite is Demons and Wizards. I have been a
Heep freak since '72 and first found out about
Heepsters on the Web about 1 year ago. A lot
has transpired since that glorious day last year.... I have made tons of new friends and
learned more than I thought I ever could about Heep. Of course, just concluded the
'97 Heepvention in St.
Louis, something I never ever thought I would see happen in my lifetime!"
Todd Pence (Fairfield, Virginia, US) writes,
"The definitive Heep album. The record that introduced me to Heep and the one I
invariabily play to introduce others to Heep. Not only is almost every song on here a
Heep classic, the construction is more tighter, with shorter, more lyrical sounds that
still find room for each band member to showcase their talents. Belongs on anyone's list
of all-time great rock albums. If the band had recorded nothing else, this album would
still have garnered them a legion of fans who would remember them today."
Rex Stocklin (Marina Del Ray, California, US) writes
"As for Paradise/The Spell, I'm surprised that you didn't cite the wonderful singing
byplay between David & Ken that basically was evil versus good set to music. Plus I
think that Ken WAS the standout performer here (besides his piano, he had deliciously
understated organwork, his most evocative slide work yet and a gritty vocal that rivals
David's plaintive chords. I might add that Gary's bass was playfully melodic here, though
I do agree with your assessment in general that Newton set the standard. I also love the
layered background vocals, which are as good as the ones in If I Had The
Time. I LOVE this tune and think it's really the cornerstone of Heep's sound, not
July Morning (which I also like a lot)."
