Season 1

CARETAKER

Well, I guess it's safe to say that it wasn't love at first sight. But nevertheless, sparks definitely flew right from the beginning - right from that first meeting on the bridge. Then, of course, they had to rethink their roles as enemies and become alies. And thus the way was paved for a much stronger relationship to develop, as they began the journey home together.

This, I think, is summed up in one pivotal moment: Chakotay's famous words to B'Elanna. "She's the Captain."

PARALLAX

Wow! Talk about sparks! What with numerous death glares, and a couple of heated confrontations, it's a wonder the walls didn't catch fire. The chemistry between these two is amazing.

Chakotay stands up to Janeway - "I will not be your token Maquis officer!"
She reprimands him - "What you did out there was out of line."

But in the end Janeway concedes to his point, B'Elanna becomes Chief Engineer, and the command team has a nice little flirty conversation in the upper level of Engineering.

TIME AND AGAIN

Not much J/C interaction at all, but I think Chakotay displays a nice amount of concern when Janeway disappears. He worries about her, anticipates her actions, and works a lot harder to get her back than you might expect.

PHAGE

A cute conversation about breakfast (Janeway likes Eggs Benedict) that is seriously flirty. She invites him to join her, which is a very good sign, even if he does decline.

THE CLOUD

Heaps of noteworthy J/C in what is a nice character episode for the whole crew.

First Janeway and Chakotay discuss animal guides on the bridge - "Are you a bear? You strike me as the bear type." He offers to show her the vision quest, and she agrees - "It's a date!"

Chakotay showing her her animal guide is the most adorable scene. They sit close on the floor, and they hold hands!!

Then there's the final scene in Sandrine's, where Janeway out-sharks the sharks at pool - "Commander, your stick!"

STATE OF FLUX

Janeway and Chakotay work well together in this one to gang up on Seska... Even if the scenes with Seska purring at Chakotay are a bit irritating. Not really J/C-ish but worth mentioning.

CATHEXIS

This time it's Janeway showing very real concern for Chakotay. And of course the best thing is she touches his bare chest!! Oh, and notice B'Elanna looking rather jealous as she watches them. I think she sees what we do which lends credibility to our belief in the J/C relationship.

LEARNING CURVE

Janeway and Chakotay get all hot and sweaty on the bridge. Unfortunately it's not for any good reason. But still, I think it's pretty obvious what our trusty Commander is thinking about when he looks at Janeway. (No, I'm not making that up... Okay, so I might be...)

Oh, and the bit where Chakotay punches Dalby is so great! It has absolutely nothing to do with J/C but I love that scene so I thought I'd mention it.

Season 2

THE 37'S

In some people's opinion this is the very first real J/C episode. It certainly has more J/C than any prior episode. We see a lovely scene in the ready room where they sit close together on the couch. They discuss the merits of staying, and going on, and it's a nice bonding moment for the two.

The last scene is the best though!! Walking down the corridor towards the cargo bay, Janeway and Chakotay have another talk. They stop just outside the door, and then we see the most significant J/C scene of the series up till that point. She shows some vulnerability - she's afraid to go inside. He puts his hand on her shoulder (!!) and tells her that no matter what happens, they'll get home.

ELOGIUM

Hailed as the 'sex episode' this is really just a big tease. But there's a totally cute bit as Chakotay tells her about catching two crewmen kissing in the turbolift (she laughs) and then they talk about relationships on board. There's a very telling moment as she says people will begin to pair off, and he comes back with "Does that include you?" and you can tell what he's thinking. But she says "As Captain, that's one luxury I can't afford." And then she mentions Mark *shudder*. If you ask me, he looks kinda jealous when she mentions him.

Anyway, another good bit is the delivery of one of the most famous lines in Voyager history. "Good work, Commander. In the future, if I have any questions about mating behaviour, I'll know where to go."

TWISTED

Not much J/C here, but Chakotay is really sweet with his concern for Janeway when she's unconscious. And I like how he stands up to Tuvok (not J/C but I don't care *g*)

PARTURITION

Um... I can't remember all that well (been a while since I saw this ep) but I think there's some nice J/C interaction on the bridge at one point.

PERSISTANCE OF VISION

This one has lots of J/C if you know where to look for it. Chakotay's amused smile on the bridge is cute, as is his almost fond tolerance for her brusqueness in sickbay when she's giving him reams and reams of orders.

Then of course, there's the controversial question of their respective alien-induced fantasies. Janeway saw Mark, and he says that she's been unfaithful, and that someone else is in her thoughts now. Some people take this to mean that revolting Lord Whatever, and TPTB certainly set it up so we could take it that way. However, those of us who know better realise Mark was referring to her secret, hidden, repressed love for her first officer *g*

In regards to Chakotay, well, we never found out what he fantasized about, and I believe that's cause it was far to steamy to show!!

TATTOO

Some really good interaction between Janeway and Chakotay that shows how comfortable they are with each other now. Chakotay tells her some stuff about his people and traditions, and it's a nice, friendly moment.

MANOEUVRES

Oooh. Seska is back with a vengeance in this one. Chakotay does very well as the tortured soul, and basically all the dumb stuff he does is to rectify himself to Voyager and Janeway, so I forgive him. The scene with Janeway at the end is quite powerful. She reprimands him, and he says 'It means something to me. It means I let you down." He says it in a way that tells us how important her trust is to him.

DREADNOUGHT

Good interaction on the bridge through the entire episode (on both ships.) The best bit, however, was when Janeway orders Chakotay to lead the evacuation and he REALLY doesn't want to leave her.

INVESTIGATIONS

Chakotay is really hurt by Janeway's actions in this - he sees them as a display of her distrust. Anyway, the J/C in this episode is mostly seen in the tense atmosphere between them whenever they're in the same room.

This picture of them with Tuvok in betwen just about sums up the entire episode.

INNOCENCE

Just a short, but extremely cute conversation between Janeway and Chakotay when they're going to meet the aliens. C tells a humorous story about how he once propositioned an ambassador by accident when making First Contact.
Kindly pointed out to me by THE CAPTAIN :)

RESOLUTIONS

Uh, kind of deserves its own page, don't you think? Click Here

BASICS I

Janeway's support of Chakotay is touching, and it's easy to see it means a lot to him. That scene in her ready room is quite moving, and we see that he's not trying to hide his feelings from her at all - a show of the intimacy they developed in Resolutions? Also, it's nice to see how close he and Janeway are when they're kneeling together in the cargo bay - and also the way he steadies her when the ship is rocked.

BASICS II

Janeway placates Chakotay over his less than stellar fire-making skills... Until he goes for her hair. (We've alway known he had a thing for it!) Anyway, they're a bit too busy surviving for any more J/C moments until Voyager appears over the horizon. Janeway and Chakotay are standing next to each other, and the look they share is frought with meaning.
