SACRED GROUND
A really nice J/C episode IMHO, though it masquerades as a Janeway episode. There's a few great scenes involving the two, concerning the nature of faith and belief. Also, Chakotay's concern is now fully recognisable. You don't have to go looking for it like in the episodes of prior seasons. It's out in full strength here, with Chakotay displaying a fair amount of nervous anxiety. The last scene is very good too - a poignant end to the episode. |
|
FUTURE'S END
Nice J/C interraction down on the planet. There's a really flirty scene with lots of body contact, looks, and comments. "Well, she does have your legs," says Chakotay, talking about a half-naked rollerskater. |
|
THE Q AND THE GREY
The opening scene, where Chakotay 'suggests' she go to bed, is really cute.
And then there's something we never thought we'd see. Flagrant jealousy!!
Wow. And Janeway's reaction is nice too, clearly acknowledging the feelings he has for her, if not directly.

|
MACROCOSM
Janeway's emotions are clear when she finds him unconscious in the mess hall - shocked, pained, even slightly horrified. And then the finishing scene is very interesting, if you ask me. Chakotay invites her to go skiing with him and some others. Though she declines, I think this scene is indicative of a whole side to Voyager life that we don't see often - the interaction of the crew during 'downtime'. We know it happens, I just wish we saw more of it!! |
|
ALTER EGO
WOW!!!
Don't they make the cutest couple?
|
|
CODA
Well, where do I begin? This is the biggest J/C episode since 'Resolutions'. It's simply packed full of J/C scenes. Start with their flirty little conversation in the shuttlecraft, which would be nice to see on its own.
Then there's the best bit - Janeway dying, and Chakotay frantically trying to save her. His pleas for her not to die are heartwrenching, and the anguish on his face is very real.
Then at the end there's the famous 'rose scene' where he gives her a flower in her ready room (which is just so unbelievably cute) and then she invites him to join her for a moonlight sail on Lake George with a bottle of champagne!!! |
|
UNITY
Well, this episode was a bit of a downer after 'Coda' I must say. But I think her reaction to the situation is very telling. Can't you just feel her disappointment? |
|
BEFORE AND AFTER
I had to be reminded about this one, but it has actually got quite a bit of J/C in it. You just have to look behind all the gross Tom/Kes stuff. First of all, there's the bit where Janeway is killed on the bridge during the 'Year of Hell' time period. Chakotay touches her face, and then he has a terrible expression on his face as he swallows his anguish and takes command. Right at the end there's yet another party scenario, this time on the holodeck. Janeway and Chakotay are practically glued together at the hip during the whole scene.

SCORPION I
Well, the episode starts out wonderfully. That scene in her ready room had me literally jumping around squealing the first time I saw it.
Did anyone else just want to kill Tuvok? Then, of course, there's the whole argument, which is nicely tense though slightly disheartening. |
|
SCORPION II
First, Chakotay is very worried about her, over on the Borg cube. Then the scene with her injured in sickbay is really sweet. The confrontation later is soooo great. The chemistry is explosive, and when they realise they're so much stronger when they work together... *sniff sniff* Lastly, the holodeck scene is lovely. They agree to disagree, Janeway forgives him for being a jerk, and he forgives her for being manipulative. I love his words: "I want you to know that going against your orders was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do." |
|
NEMESIS
Janeway is very worried about Chakotay, and gets visibly irritated when Tuvok is being pessimistic. Also, it's so obvious how much she cares about him during the sickbay scene at the end. |
|
SCIENTIFIC METHOD
She touches his thigh (!!!) in sickbay, and is concerned about his condition. Even when he looks like this!! Now that's true love. |
|
YEAR OF HELL I
Do the words 'Happy Birthday' mean anything to you? It should!! He gives her a pocketwatch and it's such a lovely scene... Until she brushes him off and tells him to recycle it - to his obvious dismay. Also there's a bit before that in her trashed ready room which is nice as well. |
|
YEAR OF HELL II
Okay, it is SO ANNOYING that this episode is entirely erased from their memories. They reach such a point of mutual desperation, when all they really want to do is get back to each other. This is shown in lots of scenes - mostly from Janeway's perspective. I was pracitcally in tears when she finds the watch in his quarters (so is she, incedentally) and there's a part later on, when she's all alone on the bridge - she looks over at his empty chair, and you know she wishes he was there... Over on the Krenim time ship, Chakotay is no doubt thinking the same thoughts about her. The most significant scene is when he tells Tom to send a message to Voyager and then adds, "Give Kathryn my best." He's also convinced that she's still alive - even though they have no reason to believe it. Isn't that precious?! |
|
MORTAL COIL
Another of Neelix's parties (see 'Alter Ego') and they're together again. See how close they're standing? *sigh* They make such an adorable couple... |
|
WAKING MOMENTS
Grrrr. The very mention of this episode makes me mad. No doubt everyone knows that they filmed a KISS in this episode, but took it out later. WHAT IS WRONG WITH THEM!?!? It would have been just a dream - it didn't have to have any actual ramifications on the show, and yet it would have meant so much to us. But noooo. We got a Kim/Seven kiss instead which is unfair for so many reasons. The sickbay scene, where she touches his chest and speaks tenderly, doesn't even begin to make up for this. |
|
MESSAGE IN A BOTTLE
A cute scene on the bridge, which isn't really J/C at all, but is nice anyway. And if you watch closely in the closing scene in sickbay, Chakotay looks at Janeway just as the Doctor tells them they 'aren't alone any more'. It's a look that is fraught with meaning (even if she's too busy getting all teary eyed to look back). |
|
HUNTERS
Hailed as the J/C episode of season four, for obvious reasons. The first ready room scene is so beautiful. You can tell that Chakotay is at first a little threatened by the possible Return of Mark. But then he's just concerned for her when he finds out she was dumped. The look they share is so meaningful - she's so hurt, and he's all sympathetic... Until Harry calls them to the bridge (dang!) The last scene - again in the ready room - is even better. It's a nice, teasing conversation. Then she admits Mark was a 'safety net' against becoming involved with someone else, and he's about leaping out of his seat to offer himself... But then they get interrupted AGAIN, this time by Neelix. What is it about meaningful conversations in the ready room that just invites interruptions?? |
|
THE KILLING GAME II
Okay. This episode proves it. Janeway and Chakotay are meant to be together. Here we have them with their own lives totally erased, and completely different ones programmed into their brains. Yet even when they're not themselves, they are drawn to one another. Yup, this ep is full of really fun J/C. None of that angsty stuff. "You're a pretty gung-ho kinda gal, aren't you?" Her face is priceless when he says this! And having her call him 'Captain' is a nice change of pace. *grin* Oh, and a couple of times they get so close I think 'Captain Miller' was about to explode. In the Jefferies tube is the obvious example, but also in the Klingon simulation. |
|
OMEGA DIRECTIVE
Another HUGE J/C scene!! This time it's in Astrometrics, when Chakotay confronts her about going on a suicide mission. He calls her his 'closest friend', and persuades her to accept his help. That whole moment is so telling of their relationship, and sparks of pure J/C Energy fly throughout the entire scene.. He knows her so well - knows just which buttons to push, and how to appeal to her sense of reason. |
|
ONE
A confrontation somewhat reminiscent of 'Scorpion I', but this time there is no argument. Chakotay is asking for her reassurance about leaving Seven in charge. It's a far cry from that disagreement over the Borg situation as he accepts her at her word, and doesn't question her faith in Seven. |
|
HOPE AND FEAR
A very short but sweet J/C scene in the mess hall. It's a nice, intimate moment. He joins her for coffee, too. I think she's corrupted him!! Later in the show, when Janeway gets stolen away from Voyager, Chakotay is so determined to get her back that his actions are fairly reckless, if you ask me. It seems to me like he'd be willing to do just about anything to save her. |
