Cribbage:

29 point hands are rare!
Famous "29" board

I enjoy playing cards, especially cribbage.  Have you seen me on Yahoo? Or, you may have seen me playing cribbage in the tournament rooms on "The Zone" using the nickname, "MsDetta". I have participated in team tournaments as "Warrior_Detta", "Girl_VenDetta", and "funnie_fairie". Don't know much about cribbage? Let me point you in the right direction (lol).  Cribbage is played with 2, 3, 4, or 6 players; the 4-player and 6-player versions are played with partners.  Points scored during the game are pegged on a cribbage board. A 29-point hand is rare, and it's impossible to have a 19-point hand. The first player to peg 121 points wins. If you want to know more about cribagge, I've provided some links.

Join the Listener Advisory Board

X Rock103.9 is my radio station of choice. WXRD is located in Crown Point, Indiana.  Local news, weather, traffic, and sports on top of great classic rock music. Why not join the Listener Advisory Board? I did.

Books:

I admit I'm a "bookaholic", and I've been known to read cereal boxes and toothpaste tubes when there wasn't a book handy (lol). I love the big, thick books, and consider small books a light snack. I love authors who write serial novels, because one book is never enough (lol). As Stephen King said, "It is the tale, not he who tells it." Many years ago, I was a regular poster to the Stephen King Fan Club bulletin board on Prodigy, and my nickname, Detta, comes from there.

Attending college has been tough on my addiction, as I wouldn't dare pick up a book because homework would never get done. I love historical fiction by authors, such as James Clavell, John Jakes, W. Michael and Kathleen O'Neal Gear, and R. F. Delderfield. However, recently I've been hooked on the science fiction genre. With my voracious appetite, I'm always looking for more authors to read. Please email your suggestions for new authors to read. I've provided links to a few of my favorite authors:

Look how fast I read

Isaac Asimov
Orson Scott Card
Arthur C. Clarke
Robert Jordan
Stephen King
J.R.R. Tolkien

These authors have created another world for you to enter. Asimov's Foundation and Robot series are must reads for any science fiction fan. His robots are close to a becoming reality in today's world.

If you love sci-fi and video games, Card's Ender series should be your starting point, but don't stop there. Also try his Alvin the Maker and Homecoming series.

If you've never experienced the visions of Clarke, then you definitely need to take the time. This man's vision of satellites has become a reality. Which of his other visions will become reality? If you loved the movie, 2001: A Space Odyssey, try 2010 and 2021.

Jordan's Wheel of Time series is a gateway to a complex world of witches, warlocks, and warriors. In my opinion, he is the modern day Tolkien. I'm anxiously awaiting Book X in the series--told you I loved those serials. small smiley face "Try it Mikey, you'll like it."

King is the master of horror. I got hooked on his Salem's Lot (referred it to all my friends too), and I have an original copy of The Shining published by Doubleday. I'm one of those "avid readers" that he addresses in his works. I'm lost in the Dark Tower, and I hope he lets me out soon. (lol) "Dad-a-chum?"

I'm glad to see Tolkien's Lord of the Rings made into a movie, and now back on the bookshelves in bookstores. A few years ago, when I wanted a copy, I had to have it special ordered. I named my cat, "Precious," because of his works. What is precious to you? His use of the words, "my precious, my precious," seems an apt metaphor for today's materialistic world.
