To operate on a pony, you must first understand her. Sooner or later, you’ll have to dismantle a pony, and if you’ve never done this before it can be kinda gruesome. I, on the other hand, have been tearing these gals apart since I was five.
Ponies have a pretty simple anatomy, unlike many other toys. The diagram above shows the most common design, although other types of ponies (Brush ‘n Grow ponies, for instance) are much more complicated.
The head and body were made by pouring rubber into a mold and spinning it. When you look inside you’ll see drip marks where the excess ran. The head has two (sometimes three) lines drawn on it where the hair is woven in. The neck has a lip that holds it inside the body, and both have an alignment mark at the front. This helps you put her head on straight. The tail is held together by a metal clasp, which is held in place by a washer. Some ponies, like the Princess Ponies, actually have two tails. Go figure.
