Grandma Nibbles' Food Facts

Picture of Fruits and Vegetables

Well hello everyone out there!  How are you doing?

My name is Granny Nibbles and I just LOVE to collect little bits of information about food.  You know my grandkids think I'm a little off my rocker ( if you know what I mean)! But what the heck, I've been doing it since I was a babe barely starting school.   Anyhow. . . I'm here to share a little bit of this and that with you.  Hope you like it!   Have a great day!  Take care, now.

My mama taught me a very long time ago that some foods can do more than just feed me.  Like if you add baking soda to furniture oil, you can remove some stains from wood.  Pretty nifty, huh!

And speaking of stains. Did you know they used to say that if you put a tomato slice on an ink stain, usually it will soak up the stain and remove it!

Here's one for you:  If you weigh 150 pounds, your body contains about 90 pounds of water.  Wow!

Have you ever had trouble with your canister of sugar caking up and getting hard on you? Well, you might want to try this:  Put a few salt-free crackers in with the sugar to absorb the moisture that's causing all the trouble.

Did you know that white chocolate isn't chocolate?  It's really a combination of sugar, milk powder, and cocoa butter.  When cocoa butter is pressed from chocolate liquor, it loses its chocolate flavor!  Next time try a test--take a bit of the real chocolate, then a sip of water, then take a bit of white chocolate.  Compare the taste! Which is your favorite?

You should probably also know that Vitamin C helps the body absorb iron. (That should be really handy to know if you're a bit anemic!)

Another thing I've learned over the years is that, if you add hot milk to potatoes  when you are mashing them, it will help prevent them from getting heavy and soggy.

Well, folks. Guess I ought to wrap it up for now.  Wouldn't want to overstay my welcome--so to speak.  Anyway, I'll be back regular-like with more interesting food facts.   See you then!  Now take real good care of yourself, okay?
