Shanna and I found out we were expecting our first child
over the Fourth of July weekend in 2000. We were so excited, but scared at
the same time. We had no idea what to expect.
Kyle was born in Katy, Texas on February 12, 2001.
He has been an angel ever since. He had
to spend the first week of life in the NICU because he was a month
premature. He was the size of a full-term baby - 7 pounds, 6.4 ounces, but
his lungs weren't developed enough to support his big body. Once his
breathing stabilized, he had to remain in NICU to treat his jaundice.
A week after being born, Kyle finally got to go home. We were
both very excited to bring our little boy home. At night, Kyle would sleep
on his Daddy's chest. After about a week, he moved into his crib in his own
room. When he was about six weeks old,
he took his first vacation. Shanna and Kyle went with me on my first
business trip to Florida. He had no problems on the plane. Nights in the
hotel room are a different matter though.
Since then, Kyle has made several road trips in Texas -
Corpus Christi, Tyler, Dallas - and another plane trip to San Francisco.
In August, Kyle sprouted his first two teeth and started rice
cereal. He has since tried squash, carrots, pears and peaches with more to
come. The next few pages chronicle
Kyle's life in pictures and words. Enjoy!
