Q:
I've noticed that Locksmiths tend to charge more for locks I can buy at Home Depot® or Home Hardware®. Why are these locks more expensive?
A:
Stores like these carry many of the same lock brands we carry however, there is a difference in the Grade of lock available through a Professional Locksmith. Some of the locks we carry are not available at the stores mentioned above.
They usually carry the Residential Grade of the lock where we can supply the Commercial Grade of a similar lockset. Commercial Grade has several added security features such as, a hardened, tempered steel ring that encompasses the lock face, defeating attacks with ViseGrips®. The trim ring cannot be crushed.
Locks with hollow trim rings provide thieves with easy access to your property.
Q:
How long does it take to change the key that works my door locks?
A:
In most instances, it should take approximately 15 minutes per single cylinder to re-move the lock from the door, re-key the lock (change the key that operates it) and replace it on the door.
