This experimental craft can carry one person together with a
some equipment.
It is very stable and easy to control with just one hand. This makes it
a good platform for Professor Kilroy
to film the dinosaurs at the Lost Island. Despite the use of a powerful
yet light piston engine it is under powered. This means it only has a
small
fuel tank which in turn leads to a limited endurance.
In real life this helicopter would spin out of control due to
the lack
of a tail rotor. Instead you could modify it to have double counter
rotating
rotors, as developed by the Kamov design bureau. This requires an extra
long (3 length) technic pin besides the extra propeller. To make it
even
more realistic the propellers can be replaced by the larger propellers
found in 5935 Island Hopper and 4980
Tunnel Transport. This just makes it a little bit harder to get the
pilot in and out.
The 5904 has been available in the Netherlands. If you bought
goods
for 25 Guilders (~$12) at the Albert Hein supermarkets you could get
one
of five Lego sets for 1,5 Guilders (~$1). Besides the 5904 there was
two
Knights Kingdom, an Arctic and a Scala set. This set is now available
from
Lego Shop@Home for $2.50.
The 1279 is available in Japan from the Kabaya
Candy Company. The inside of the box has directions for combining the
set
with each of 1278, 1279
and 1281. It also has a sheet with a
suggestion
for a boat and a small vehicle built of all the sets.
