Back with a Vengance...Sort of...

Aragorn fights off pressure from Eomer.

June 27, 2004

DOM-LAND, Middle Earth— The boyfriends were back and boy, was there trouble.

"Hey-la, hey-la, my boyfriend's back," sang Pippin in a dazed monotone.

"Shut up! Shut up!" said Legolas covering his ears.

Apparently some unkown entity left "My Boyfriend's Back" on permanent repeat on the Merry-Go-Round...Rink...Thing Where a Penguin Plays a Banjo's PA system. Nonetheless, the Caribou tied the Rohan Riders 2-2 and the Ithilien Rangers 3-3.

Game one against the Riders nearly overflowed with enthusiasm as Frodo, Sam and Aragorn returned from suspension. Fresh legs kept the three flying over the ice, which sort of made up for the tired legs of the other line.

"We had to make up for lost time," said Frodo who tallied a goal and an assist against Rohan. "We have to get our rhythm back! We have to get ready for the playoffs! Go! Go! Go! Go! Go! Go! Go! Go!"

"Mr. Frodo's kind of excited, if you take my meaning," said Sam who scored the other Caribou goal. "Ever since the big fight, he's been very--"

"He's screaming yellow zonkers, he is," said Merry.

The former ringbearer, in fact, ended the evening with the most penalty minutes, mostly for butt-ending various Riders in the shins. In the penalty box, he flung a water bottle and then a stick onto the ice in a fit of pique.

"Can't you put him on Ritalin or something?" asked an irritable Eomer with ice bags saran-wrapped to his shins. "Or horse tranquilizers or something." The Third Marshall managed to score twice, even with incredibly painful shins. "We'll take up a collection to pay for some tranquilizers."

"I blame the PA system," said Boromir.

"Thank goodness it wasn't Tiffany," said Gandalf. The grey wizard made 24 saves.

"Hey la," murmered Pippin.

Fortunately, a helpful facilities attendant smacked some sense into the PA system before the second game.

The Rangers came in with a four-game unbeaten streak led by their Captain Faramir with seven points in that stretch.

"He's got some skills," conceded Boromir.

But the Caribou showed off their skills as well, with the hobbits zipping through the Ranger defence.

"We heard about the shin thing," said Faramir who continued his scoring streak with two goals.

Frodo had calmed down a bit from the Rohan match, but still maintained high energy.

"And he doesn't even need Icees," said Legolas. The defence-elf got his first shorthanded goal of the season.

"More for me!" said Pippin, who had snapped out of his "hey la" trance enough to score on the power play.

The two teams remained tied at two until late in the third when Aragorn launched a tremendous shot on the Ranger net. He missed wide, but the bounce off the boards was huge enough for Frodo to knock it past the goalie.

"That was GREAT!!" said Frodo.

But Faramir's second goal, as time was running out tied the game at three and extended the Rangers' unbeaten streak to five games.

If the Rangers beat the still somewhat clueless hobbits next week, they'll clinch the fourth playoff spot. The Eldar are number one in the league with a perfect record. The Fighting Uruk-Hai have the number two spot and the Caribou are third.

Next week, the Caribou close out the regular season against the Ringwraiths.

Sorry this update is late. Here's a story about the power of puppy.

NOTES: For some reason, it's been rather difficult for Bubbles to update on Fridays, so from now on, DL updates will take place on Saturdays, Bubbles' Standard Time, which is Sunday for most of the rest of the world. Sorry about that.
