Gimli celebrates a hattrick.

July 3, 2004

DOM-LAND, Middle Earth— So ends the season of the also-ran. The Ringwraiths, last year's MEHA championship finalists finished a dismal season with a dismal 4-1 loss to the Dom-Land Caribou.

"That sometimes happens with teams that make the finals but don't win," said Legolas. "It's so hard to regroup the next season." *

"Skreegrrrr," said Ringwraith #7, whom the 'Wraith fans have dubbed "Hubert" for no real reason. "Hubert" scored the only 'Wraith goal on the power play with Merry in the box for cross-checking.

"I just tapped him," insisted the pride of Brandy Hall. "It's not my fault they're all semi-dead."

The listlessness of the 'Wraiths gave 'Bou head coach Elrond some "wiggle room," and put defence-dwarf Gimli on a line with Pippin and Merry. Boromir was switched to defence so he could practice skating backward again.

"My bottom is fine, thank you," he told a rather overenthusiastic reporter.

Gimli gleefully took the opportunity to expand his skills on offence, scoring three goals.

"Hrah!" he shouted, repeatedly, at everyone within a 100-yard radius. The hats that rained down from the stands will be donated to a charity that gives away hats to fans who have lost theirs due to hattricks.

Even Frodo who sometimes needed extra meditation before facing the beings who repeatedly tried to do very bad things to him cheerfully bopped about the ice and in the locker room.

"They suck," he said, "and that's sad."

"Sportsmanship, lad," said Gandalf, thumping the former ringbearer on the head.

"Sorry," said Frodo.

Aragorn scored the fourth goal for the Caribou, who pretty much dominated the entire match.

Gandalf made 15 saves in the final regular season game.

The Caribou ended their second season with a 13-8-7 record, good for second in the league.

Next up for the 'Bou is a one week break, while they prepare for the playoffs. Their highly anticipated matchup against the Fighting Uruk-Hai promises to be intense due to bad blood between the two teams. In the other playoff series, the undefeated and seemingly invincible Eldar face the Ithilien Rangers with their red-hot Captain Faramir on a five-game scoring streak.

*I'm not implying that the Calgary Flames will suck next year. If any team can regroup, they can.

NOTES: For some reason, it's been rather difficult for Bubbles to update on Fridays, so from now on, DL updates will take place on Saturdays, Bubbles' Standard Time, which is Sunday for most of the rest of the world. Sorry about that.
