 Warm
and caring, Kala adopts baby Tarzan and raises him as her own. Kala loves
Tarzan with all her heart, and her protection and encouragement enable the
boy not only to survive, but to thrive in the jungle. When humans arrive,
Kala watches Tarzan become increasingly torn between his ape family and
the humans. She finally tells Tarzan the truth about his past and in doing
so gives her son the ultimate gift: the power to chart his own destiny.
In the end, Tarzan understands his mother's wisdom as he realizes that family
isn't defined by those who look like you, but by those you love.
