On the people

The Enden people live a relatively simple lifestyle by northern standards, making use of what is available in large amounts. They are a proud and often stubborn race.

Their homes are almost always made of wood and sometimes built in trees. The homes, unless the occupant is of high standing, consists of one or occasionally two rooms. The main room is huge, and consists of the bedroom, kitchen and living space. The occasional other room is normally the room of worship and the room of healing. If someone is ill, they are placed in the room with the belief the Gods will heal them. When someone occupies this room only a priest or doctor may visit them, as they believe anyone else would disturb the healing process of Renaya. The houses are rarely large as they are only used for sleeping and eating on a regular basis. Larger houses are sometimes owned by the rich and important of Enden. The only large buildings, with parts made of stone and marble, is the Palace, but compared to Northern palaces it is tiny and primitive, but it is a beautiful building. The Endish people eat little, as they need not much to survive (more than the Dalmites though), but what they do eat rarely changes. They eat deer and other wild animals often, but other than that their diets consist of a porridge type mixture, stew, bread, vegetables, and a few fruits (namely apples). The more important will sometimes bring in more exotic foods for an important visitor or a large event.

The methods of the Endish may seem primitive but they are infact ingenious. They make use of wild poisons of the forest in their bows for a start, and they are almost as deadly as the Dalmites. They are experts in tracking and animal noises, and hunting is no hard task for them, but at the same time they treasure animals and their few horses are well known as some of the fastest in the lands. The cooking of the Endish is also amazing; they can make a single duck into what would seem two ducks when serving. The Endish do however have problems building larger buildings on the ground, such as when they built the royal palace, but they make use of trees around them magnificently. The Endish could live in the wild for years with a stream nearby and some trees carrying nuts and berries.

The Endish do not, as of such, have a social status. The King and the Lords who sit around the Table of Esragoth would look apon a simple peasant as their equal, as the Endish are not a 'posh' society, but fairly relaxed and co-operating as a society.

Religion

The Enden religion worships Aralea, and the people believe that she will come in her 3 forms to their aid if needed. The religion is not overly strict, but people are expected to pray once a day, and all turn to Aralea in times of need. The King or the Table do not enforce the religion, but someone who defies it is shunned by the Endish and sometimes forced to leave the area.

The Endish normally worship in the Church of Aralea and its 3 branches (Gilreon, Shalrinda and Renaya) own churches. So the are in total 4 churches in the Enden kingdom. No more are permitted but smaller versions, called Sosals, are allowed in other places. Each of the main churches has at least 2 priests, one of them the head priest of that church section. The head-priest of the Church of Aralea also takes a seat on the Table of Esragoth.

To choose the line of priesthood is a very respectable line in Enden, thought few are take it, most taking their natural instinct and heading to the woods. For the young man to become a priest, he must become learned in both lore and the religion. When the man finally becomes a priest, after one year of being an apprentice priest, he joins whichever church he trained for, the church of Aralea being the hardest to join.

Priesthood ensigns treating the ill, teaching the young, and preaching the religion. A priest however, has no major cut backs on life. He may marry and have children. All that is expected is that he behaves wisely and is of kind heart, and preaches the religion to all when he can.

Appearance

The appearance of the Endish is not much different than the north or south. The Endish tend to be tall, and their hair is often long, they are slight of body, and often their skin is slightly darker than northerners. Apart from that they look much like the average Salandorfian.

Relations and Trading

The Endish normally attempt to have friendly relations with most cultures. They have long had cordial relations with the Dalmites, who helped them when they first arrived in Enden. As for the other races of the Bloodlands the Endish are not so friendly. Many other occupants of the Bloodlands attacked them when they first lived in Enden, and the Endish have long hated them, but rarely make war with them.

As for the North the Endish think of them as a strange race, and often do not trust them. The Endish do not understand why they reside in stone towns with huge walls and gates around them. The Endish race hates the south, for what Rahkzan did to their homes on his march North (see history for more)

Most of the Endish trading takes place with the Dalmites and the border settlements of the North, but they also often trade with the neutral city of Caeril.

On the Ruling

The Table of Esragoth

The Table of Esragoth is the ruling council of Enden, made out of the ancient tree Esragoth. Never more than five people may take a place at the table (though 'listeners' are occasionally allowed). The five consist of, the King of Enden (currently Aragon Elvaraldor), the Head-priest of Aralea, the head advisor of Enden and the two Captains of the army.

The King heads the Table, with all others in equal standing on it. The Table meets once a week and at times of crisis in Enden. The Table is the overall ruling of Enden, with all major decisions being made there. Anything from tactics of war and conquest to the years harvest can be discussed.

The Table is used in Enden so as to take the greatest Endish minds and combine their wisdom and experience.

The Kingship

The King of Enden is the most important figure in the kingdom. He leads the table to Enden and has the biggest say in what happens, only a combined vote of the Table can overthrow his decision.

The system of who becomes King next in Enden is simple; the oldest male child becomes King, though if only a female child exists, then she will become Queen. The appointed heir becomes King or Queen exactly one week after the last Kings death, and is crowned by the Head-priest of Aralea. If no such heir exists the nearest to the King in bloodline with the King will become King or Queen.

On the Army

General

The Enden army is not so much an organised unit, almost every man is considered of the army, except those of skilled craftsmanship, priesthood or of another line decreed by the king too important for the army.

The Enden army is not organised, other than the King's small bodyguard, as most live in the woods. The Rangers of course act as an army almost all the time, scouting the forests and watching Anhorf.

The structure is, therefore, very loose. When the time comes rangers are lead by their own leaders of the small group they are in, but Aragon Elvaraldor is the Leader of the Enden army in a whole, with the two royally appointed captains directly underneath.

Weapons

The weapons of the Enden army are fairly simple. They generally use a bow, only the rich use steel swords, which fetch a high price in Enden, steel tipped arrows are more common, but still expensive. Most of the Endish are extremely skilled in the practise of using a bow, and are known to be some of the best archers in Adellion.

The Endish scouts often use wild poisons on their arrows, ranging in power from knocking someone out and a simple rash to death in a few seconds.

From the studies of Hilnorn Rill, historian of Adellion.
