A Brief Overview Of Adellion
Looking around all the other sites overviews, I've come to the conclusion that no one has an up to date overview of Adellion! So, pray, listen to attempt of explaining this wonderfull game.
The world of Adellion is truely unique, for it is a blend of strategy and roleplaying. Another unique part of it is the fact it is played in your web browser, don't let this put you off, Paul has remarked several times that VRML critics are in for a BIG suprise.
Adellion is a massive world, one third of the size of earth itself, massive for a single game. Unlike most other overviews, I can tell you for sure, that 2 miles is not added every time a player joins, that information is very out of date.
Time passes slower than most online games, at the rate of 2 IG days per 1 RL days. So if you wish to, you are likely to experience both day and night. Years in Adellion are the equivilent of 4 real life weeks.
Movement is not limited for players. You can move as much as you like, if you have a horse you can travel faster than on foot of course. As for armies and other NPCs, the movement is veyr different, they can only move 20 miles an IG day, I belive it may be extended for mounted NPCs though.
The economy will be very detailed and intresting. The will be numerous ways to trade, bartering, coins of gold, silver and other metals, and jewels, in other words, anything the player wants! Also, the more rich you are, the more peasents will want to work for you. The economy will change as the players dictate, and different cities will have different prices!
Much of the game will revolve around NPCs and buildings. Peasents will come to your land if you build houses for them. NPCs will preform labour for you, such as farming the lands and mining resources, but will also serve you in any other way they can. You can also train your peasents and equip them to fight for you.
The are numerous different buildings that you will be able to construct, if you have the resources then you can build it. In beta one they will just appear, but in later builds they will take time depending on how many peasents are set to the task. As well as houses you will be able to build towers, walls, castles and keeps. Of course building large structures will be expensive and large kingdoms will not be common.
The military will play a large part in the game. You will recruit from your peasents for your army, equip them and train them. Then you will have to feed them to keep them loyal, and alive of course, but also pay them money, to keep their moral high! If you do not give them this, they will desert you, so always be carefull to recruit an army that you can support!
To order your soldiers will be simple, especcialy if you fight with them. Orders can be quickly given via a menu. Though if you do not fight alongside your soldiers, you will have to send messenger, wasting valuable time! Your soldiers will also be less confident if you are not fighting alongside them also. Your men will cross any terrain unless the are walls or water stopping them, so review your plans carefully before giving orders.
When recruiting your legions, consider things carefully. Can you feed them? Can you pay them? and do you really need this many? Also consider what type of soldier you pick, and what you already have. A well composed army of 100 could defeat a horde of 250 with a competent general.
The goverment of Salandorf will consist of 10-12 of the most honourable and intelligent people in the north, it is the only organised goverment. The south is ruled by Rahzkan, rather than a goverment.
Diplomacy will be handeled by players as they wish.
