Extension:
The following is a list of activities/ideas which will give you the opportunity
to extend your learning on Macbeth and Shakespeare beyond this webquest,
and beyond the classroom:
-
You are a close friend of
Lady Macbeth, and before she commited suicide you were with her. Create
the dialogue between you and the troubled queen before she decides to take
her life.
-
Imagine Shakespeare was
a Newfoundlander/Labradorian! Pick one of the scenes in Macbeth
and re-write it using the traditional dialect known to this province.
-
Picture yourself as one
of the witches who taunts Macbeth, but is feeling rather guilty about it.
Write him a letter of apology for what you have been doing, and give him
some advice on how to outwit your two sisters.
-
While Macbeth and his wife
leave Duncan for dead, he uses the last remaining strength in his body
to write to Malcolm and Donalbain. What would he say to them?
-
You are the nurse who attends
to Lady Macbeth while she descends into madness. Write a letter to the
Human Rights Commission-Labour Board, explaining why you can no longer
hold this job.
-
Imagine that you are Macbeth.
Due to the amount of pressure that Lady Macbeth has been putting on you
to kill your king, you
are petitioning for a divorce and representing yourself in a court of law.
What would be your opening and closing statements in the case?
-
Macbeth is one of Shakespeare's
Tragedies. What if it was meant to be a comedy? What changes would you
make to the play in order to facilitate this switch?
