Macbeth: The Process

The following table contains the roles that the king has asked you to take on. You may decide amongst yourselves who will claim each position.

Historical Researcher
You shall be responsible for researching William Shakespeare. His life, his works, and his background are quite important. As well, you must research the background for Macbeth the play. The story surrounding the play, real life connections, and the value of setting are important points to note.
Character Analysis Specialist: Macbeth
You are responsible for an indepth look into the character of Macbeth. What makes him tick? What kind of man is he? What does he want in his life? Who influences his decision making? (ie: witches, Lady Macbeth, himself)You may also want to take a look at some criticisms towards him to help your analysis.

Character Analysis Specialist: Lady Macbeth
You will be responsible for the indepth look into the character of Lady Macbeth. You may want to focus on her goals in life, her feelings towards Macbeth, her actions as a female, her acts of insanity, and her demise. Who was responsible for what happened to her?

Theme/Motif Connoisseur
Your responsibility lies within the heart of the play. There are many underlying themes and motifs outlined throughout, and it is your job to find them and discuss them with relevance to the characters and the plot.

The roles are used in order to divide the task into four equal parts. Each role has a clearly defined outline of what is necessary, but feel free to go outside the boundaries to explore any other aspects of your specific topic area.

The conclusion of your research must revolve around this question:

" Is human nature innately evil, or is it the elements of our surroundings and our environment which influence our behaviour?" -Use Macbeth as your reference for this argument.

LEARNING ADVICE

as a group you should decide how you want your presentation and your written report to come together. Input from all members is necessary, as a peer evaluation will come into play later...

BRAINSTORM for ideas on each individual perspective. Decide on how you will focus your topic, and what details are of most importance to your area. Use the four heads to your advantage!

Webbing is a great way to get all of your thoughts and ideas down on paper. Don't hesitate to use this style of thinking.

Your group should be your "Aid to Navigation." If you aren't sure of where you are going, talk about it! Just because you are assigned to one specific role doesn't mean that you have to do it all alone. Any input that you can give each other will help!

There is no "I" in team (except when team is written in French, and then there is an I =) ) But anyways, Don't try to dominate the group, and don't let yourself be silenced. You need to work together effectively in order for this project to be a complete success.
