Your task now is to develop and use your business
communication skills to help a charity organization reach its objectives.
Working in groups of three students, you will decide which charity you
want to help. You will prepare a PowerPoint presentation for an upcoming
class Board Meeting, giving your classmates some background information
on the charity, explaining why you want to help that charity, and proposing
a fundraising event that we, as a class, can organize here at our school.
You will also prepare a formal letter to the staff of this school, explaining
why you think they should donate the proceeds of a Friday Staff Jeans Day
to the charity you have selected.
When OPERATION: PHILANTHROPIST has been completed,
our class will have organized an event to help a worthwhile charity organization
from our community. You will have also developed your skills in research
using the Internet, in writing formal letters and memorandums, in preparing
and using PowerPoint presentations, in running and recording business meetings,
and in writing formal and informal business reports. Besides helping
a charity from the community, you will be helping yourself find a job!
Everything you do for this exercise -- from the skills you develop to the
volunteer experience you gain -- can be included on your resume.
You will be showing potential employers that you have the skills they are
looking for, that you have experience using those skills, and that you
care about your community. |
