OPERATION:  PHILANTHROPIST

Conclusion
During OPERATION: PHILANTHROPIST you have helped a charity from your community by raising student awareness, and planning a fundraiser to increase the charity's resources.  But OPERATION: PHILANTHROPIST has done a lot for you as well.  This exercise has helped you to develop your skills at research using the internet, at working with small and large groups, and understanding the dynamics of communicating within groups.  This project has also shown you how to create effective business communication tools and documents such as notes from meetings, memorandums, business letters, formal and informal reports, and even PowerPoint presentations.  OPERATION: PHILANTHROPIST has also given you an opportunity to practice your public speaking skills.  All of these skills are essential for success in todays workplace, and will be useful in helping you to create an effective personal resume.  What's more, OPERATION: PHILANTHROPIST has given you some volunteer experience (and possibly even some new references), which you can cite on your resume.

Reflection
Take some time now to reflect on OPERATION: PHILANTHROPIST.  Write a few notes on the different tools and documents you utilised for this project.
How could you see yourself using these tools in the workplace?
Which of these tools would be the most helpful when looking for a job?
How did the process of working with
small groups help you to complete this project?
Where else could you see yourself working in small or large group settings?
Which of the resources did you find the most
helpful when learning how to create the documents?
Which were the least useful?
What other resources did you use besides those listed?

  • Extension
The tools and documents you have learned how to use during OPERATION: PHILANTHROPIST will be of use to you for the rest of your life.  You will use them both inside and outside of the classroom, both at work and in your private life.  Try honing your skills with some of the following activities:
Write a letter to thank the staff of the school
for donating their Jeans Day proceeds to your charity.
Write a letter to the charity organization you helped
as a follow-up to the fundraising activity and to thank them
for any help they may have given you on this project.
Write a memorandum to your group members
and classmates to thank them for their help with this project.
Create a PowerPoint presentation for a project or
assignment in one of your other courses.
Propose another fundraiser at our school for the
charity you chose during OPERATION: PHILANTHROPIST,
or for another charity you would like to help.
