This isn't really a Sailormoon page, but we just absolutely have to comment on this brilliant character of Naoko Takeuchi's creation. We also have one more page on PQ Angels, another story of Takeuchi's here, if you're interested. We love Sailor Uranus because she's different and admirable, so we provide a tiny little shrine to her on this page.

Sailor Uranus is known as Haruka Tenou in everyday life. She is one of the most curious characters in the Sailormoon series, except perhaps the Sailor Starlights; they are the most confusing of all to me. Like her asexual planet deity, at first sight she is nearly impossible to decide as male or female. This is because though she is a woman, she chooses to play the role of a man; that is, she takes up the appearance and hobbies known to be associated with masculinity. For example, she speaks in the boys' language, has a deep voice (in the anime) dresses like a man, wears no makeup and keeps her hair short, hides her figure, and is an excellent runner and racecar driver. She also has a relationship with the beautiful miss Michiru Kaiou, who is the exact opposite: every bit as feminine as they come. Not that a woman can't do any of these things, of course, but it isn't common.

What we admire most about Haruka, of course, is this wonderful personality. She has taken the tomboy stage a step further to create for herself an image that is incontestable. The world itself changes around and for her, adapting to what they can't understand, frustrated that they don't have the ability to comprehend. We admire this control she has over them so easily! Not to mention, she is terribly adorable. Sailormoon, Sailor Venus and Sailor Jupiter are all infatuated by her, and she teases them mercilessly.

In the manga, Sailor Uranus already has in her possession the Sword Talisman, which is one of three. By the way, in Japanese legend, when the invaders had trapped a last heir (a young boy) to a regal family line on a ship with his nanny, the nanny pinned the three magical talismans to her kimono vest and dove into the sea with the child to avoid capture. That was how the talismans were lost. Just a bit of history for you. In the anime, however, they have to search for the talismans, which are supposed to be enclosed in the pure hearts of people. It turns out (almost ironically) that the talismans were in Michiru and Haruka's hearts all along! I think this is one of the most dramatic moments in Sailormoon history; when Michiru dies and Haruka shoots herself to release the talisman and follow her love. Awww! It made me cry and I rushed to the phone to call up my little sister and gush my sob story.

Sailor Uranus' attacks are based on the ground, which is odd I think being hers is the 'heaven planet'. They are 'World Shaking' and with the talisman, 'Space Sword'. (Honestly we think Miss Takeuchi could have done a little better than that.) She is the most powerful of all the Senshi if you do not include Saturn, who was possessed when she had her great powers of destruction anyway. In the Japanese anime, her talented voice actress is the brilliant Ogata Megumi, to whom we have also dedicated a page.

Of interest as well, our three favourite Sailor Soldiers are (we each only chose one) Sailor Uranus, Sailor Jupiter and Sailor Mars. Below are links to good Sailor Uranus pages. Also, please try Anipike's Sailormoon selection if you want information on the Sailor Senshi.

I'm kind of pissed off about the pop-up box, but so far they're still the best provider we've found.
