A little bit of information on the boy from China, Li:

A bit on the name: the phonetic spelling for his name is ri shyaoran, which can be pronounced Shaolin, Shaolan, Shyaolan, and Shyaolin. The i can also be substituted for r but since his name is Chinese, it really depends on the area of china the reader interprets it as. 'Shaolin' mans 'small wolf'. The kanji for Li means 'plum'.
Li was the new student at Tomoeda Elementary school. He came all the way from Hong-Kong with his cousin, Mei-ling, in search of the Clow Cards. He feels he has a right to them since he is a direct descendant from Clow Reed and tries to take them from Sakura. (They a re sort of enemies for a while.) But they soon join forces and capture the Clow Cards together.
Li has a little crush on Yukito. It's really rather cute! My favourite bit was this. During the Sleeping Beauty play, he was chosen to be Aurora, and refused to go out on stage in a dress! When he was told that Yukito was there to see it, he blushed a little and said he'd go on stage. How adorable! But crushes change, and after a while, Li realises that he really likes Sakura, but since they've been enemies, he doesn't know how to approach the subject! Li also despises Ariel for taking Sakura's breath away (so he sees) and probably has good reason to as time goes on.
What do we think of Li Shaolan?
Richard: Cuuute! Woah boy isn't he rough tough and the stuff? He's so adorable and amazingly funny! Quite the comic relief needed, although he wouldn't agree with that. He tries to be all smart and macho when he first arrives, like a big know-it-all but it's not long before he loses his face and is shown for the sweet little fireball he is. You rock, Shaolan!
Viscay: Li and Eriol are my favourite characters. That's just it. I saw him first already during the second season, so I didn't get to see what he was like at first until later, but I saw him at his best. From then on, I was obsessed! There's nothing funnier than having Li around to drool over one thing or criticize another. How cool!
Riki: When I saw Li in his first episode, I didn't like him. I thought he was just a supporting character who wouldn't develop much. But as it went on, I grew to like him more and more, especially in his fights with Kero-chan! That was just hillarious. Now, Shaolan rocks and I applaud everything he's meant to be. Way to go!
