NBC is planning on pairing its two medical shows, "ER" and the
freshman comedy "Scrubs," on the same night, according to
Variety. The network may move the freshman comedy to Thursdays at 8:30
p.m. following "Friends" starting early next year, if all goes
well this Thursday when NBC is testing the medical comedy in the
timeslot. The move is a huge show of confidence since
"Friends" is currently the No. 1 series across all networks in
the key adults 18-49 ratings. While the movie is good news for
"Scrubs," which could only increase the numbers it now draws
following "Frasier," it spells bad news for "Inside
Schwartz," which has been pulling disappointing numbers in the
timeslot. "Schwartz," a sports-themed relationship comedy
starring Breckin Meyer, has averaged an 11.9 household rating/18 share
and 18.7 million total viewers since its premiere, compared to
"Friends'" 17.6/27 and 28.2 million. On Tuesdays,
"Scrubs" has pulled an 8.2/12 and 12.7 million viewers to
"Frasier's" 10.8/16 and 16.3 million. Although the ratings for
"Schwartz" are higher than for "Scrubs," the
audience retention is less, which is likely the main reason behind the
schedule change. The new Julia Louie Dreyfuss comedy is expected to
replace "Scrubs" in the Tuesday at 9:30 p.m. timeslot when it
premieres in January. "Scrubs," which has received widespread
critical acclaim (unlike "Schwartz" ), has been picked up for
the rest of the season while "Schwartz's" fate remains
uncertain.
