Reasons Why Actors Leave TV Shows:
2. They Want More
"Respect" (i.e., Face Time)
This is a common complaint for TV divas, especially a few WB leads
notorious for counting lines and threatening to leave if they don't get
the lioness' share.
But sometimes, it's valid. And such is the case with ER's Eriq La
Salle, who leaves County General this week after years of frustration
with ho-hum storylines and secondary-character status (which only
improved after he decided to leave). La Salle never really got the
respect he deserved, which his costars were well aware of--many of them
even boycotted TV Guide back in 1997 to protest La Salle being the only
main cast member without his own cover.
And speaking of ER docs, La Salle isn't the only one hanging up his
stethoscope after getting little screen time. Michael Michelle (Cleo) is
on her way out, and Erik Palladino (Dr. Dave) is headed for another
Peacock series where he gets much more play--literally. Later this
season, he becomes Will's potential love interest on Will & Grace.
5. They
Really Are Doing It for the Family
I hope you're sitting down for this one. Believe it or not, my sources
close to the ER set tell me that Anthony Edwards is legitimately
leaving his $400,000-an-episode job because he wants to chill with his
chilluns. Shocking, eh? He also says he's tired of the grueling schedule
(nine months out of the year--a virtual sweatshop!) and thinks 40
is way beyond suitable retirement age.
