March-May 2000:
Really shocking news... (Coming soon...) |
Our Movie of the Month: (coming soon...) |
|
February 2000:
Our annual Chinese New Year party was--you guessed it--held on the
Chinese New Year day--Saturday, February 5. Great party
this year and what made it especially wonderful
was the fact that we really were expecting it to be very small and
uneventful and instead it was a nice size with lots of great exchange
among people. What's funny about our parties is the eclectic mix and the
fact that people, by the end, are giving out their numbers to
each other for friendship and networking. Always great. And we love
everyone who comes and it's just a joy to do it. We are taking yoga classes, reading Rumi, and remembering to take more time for meditation and our much-unused-in-the-last-couple-of-months medicine wheel! |
In celebration of Alexander's
Name's Day
and our 4-year, 10-month anniversary, we went to Glenwood Springs. (Description is coming soon... but in the meantime see below how beautiful it is in the hot pool and snow around!)

| January 2000: Our New Year was a great one! We went to Moab, Utah for five days of hiking, looking at local art, and experiencing the enchantment of the desert. We went to the "Land in the Sky" and "Needles" sections of the Canyonlands National Park and we saw a few arches at Arches National Park. We had our last dinner of the 1900's at Sunset Grill, a wonderful place that sits on a cliff overlooking Moab. Alexander had for his last meal a stir-fry of lobster and shrimp and Laura had chicken in a remarkable honey pecan sauce! YUMMY! And of course, |
since Laura is the desert queen, we
had rasberry cheesecake to finish! What a way to mark the glorious end
of the 1900's! We had a quiet time back in our hotel room when the clock
struck midnight. Excitement--we watched the Crocodile Hunter
countdown on Animal Planet--boy, was that a beauty! Moab is a GREAT place, totally
wonderful and we highly recommend you check it out. We will most
definitely go back! Our Link of the Month: Microsoft's Bill Gates mug shot (and other celebrities.) |
| December 1999: We went to Moab, Utah to celebrate New Year's eve (see January 2000). |
Our Movie of the Month: The Green Mile, very good, perhaps an Oscar material? Our Link of the Month: Y2K letter you should receive in early January 2000; here is a preview... |
| November 1999: We had a great Turkey-Day holiday! We went to Kentucky to visit Laura's family: mom, brother Darrell and sister Brenda and her husband Darrell and daughter (our niece) Chelsie. Chelsie is now two and not very sociable towards strangers, so it took her a little while to warm up to us, but she did, and she's SO CUTE! We got to see Laura's aunts and one remaining uncle and his farm and see all the animals, ride a horse, and Alexander got to "strip tobacco" for the |
first time! We went to Maker's Mark distillery (the world's BEST BOURBON!!!) and saw horse farms and visited the Shaker Village in Pleasantville. Alexander got to see all the "Laura's hometown" spots. Fun, fun, fun! Next time we will
go when it's nicer, when things are blooming. Our Link of the Month: Galaxies near collision. |
|
October 1999:
We went to the Wolf Rescue the first weekend and played with real wolf puppies. Laura likes Tori Amos so we went to her concert and it was good to hear live music. The Denver International Film Festival was great and we saw 17 movies in one week (and hurt our butts), mostly foreign, "artistic", or documentaries. We really liked Train of Life and I.D. (which also won People's Choice Award). |
Alexander's Birthday party was fun, Laura cooked a really good Indian stew for the party and gave him many very nice gifts.
Our Movie of the Month: American Beauty (comedy). |
| September 1999: We camped out for the holiday (Memorial Day) weekend, and froze our asses off. Needless to say, Laura convinced Alexander to leave a day earlier because it was really cold. Plus Laura was sleeping on two lumps, which is one too many. But the REALLY cool thing is, the first day we were there, we went to go collect firewood from the forest, not TOO far away from the campground, and we saw a moose! A HUGE moose bull! He was like, 50 yards away and he was standing there, staring at us, chewing, eating his dinner of |
grasses and flowers. We stood there so long, just looking at us and us looking at him. It was so mystical and wonderful! Laura has been very busy doing much volunteer work with several organizations. At the Wolf Rescue Center she was teaching a couple of wolf pups (sisters) how to walk on a leash. Basically, they dragged her around.
Our Movie of the Month: Outside Providence (comedy), Stir of Echoes (scary). |
| August 1999: We went to the "Livable Cities" two-day conference in the mountains and camped there. Then again in two weeks we went camping by Echo Lake and took our cat Milou with us. We finished the month with Spike and Mike's Sick & Twisted Festival of Animation. | Our Link of the Month: Personality Type Test. We think it's remarkably accurate. Send us your result (the Web link with your result) and we will send you ours... |
|
July 1999:
We started 4th of July weekend hiking Colorado trail (the one that leads all the way to California but no, we didn't make it that far...). We hiked barefoot--it's good for your feet and posture (See The Barefoot Hiker). But, when you start for the first time it really hurts so we made it only about half mile before we put our hiking boots on again. In celebration of Laura's birthday and our 4-year, 3-month anniversary, we went to Glenwood Springs. We were there long enough to experience the beauty of the just-reopened Fairy Caves, the |
healing of the hot springs, and the charm of the small town. For dinner, we decided to visit the local microbrewery, which proved to be a tasty time! Ah, but alas, our time was too short, and we can't wait to go again sometime. We highly recommend this gem of the Rocky Mountains! Y2K ready? We are... we just bought our real French champagne for New Year's Eve! Our Movie of the Month: Eyes Wide Shut (Kubrick's final masterpiece); American Pie (teenage comedy, really funny if you can take it...). Laura loves scary The Blair Witch Project. |
|
May/June 1999:
Our 3rd Annual Kentucky Derby celebration party was fun and we had plenty of Burgoo and Mint Julep for all the people. Unfortunately, our favorite horse, Cat Thief, didn't win. Laura found a great job (again!?). She is an Office Manager and Administrative Assistant in a small |
Public Relations firm. She enjoys her work and learns a lot, loves the fact it's an iMac office. The summer is here and we went camping with our cat Milou to Poudre Canyon. Our Movie of the Month: The Red Violin. |
| April 1999: Alexander took Laura on a trip around Colorado to celebrate our 4-year anniversary of our meeting. Per Laura's idea, we went on a spur-of-the-moment 5-day driving vacation through Colorado. We drove to Montrose and then toured for almost an entire day the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Monument. We then drove to Ouray (The Swiss Alps of America) and stayed two days there. On our second day there, we drove to Telluride. The next day we drove the Million Dollar Highway between Silverton and Durango and then continued to Telluride on the west access road. We went back to Durango to spend our last vacationing night there. During the entire trip we enjoyed good food and numerous spectacular mountain views of mountains with white tops, canyons, and red-colored rock formations. While |
driving, Laura was stopped by a policeman for speeding but luckily got just a warning ticket! On a side note, Alexander was supposed to relax and take a break from even thinking about the stock market. Even though he obeyed by not bringing his books and checking with the market, he had a couple of trades going since the trip was unexpected. He instructed his brokers before departure how to exit trades with profit. During the trip he snuck away and called his brokers to confirm that his instructions were executed. He then, for the rest of the trip, spontaneously laughed several times, enjoying being a Professional Trader and the fact that his profitable winning trades were executed while on vacation and, incidentally, asleep too. |
| March 1999: Laura walked out of her job at the WCPA. The owner, it turned out, was not as humanitarian as his organization's jargon would have you believe. It is too bad, because she still believes in the cause of world government |
and hopes that she can still find a way to work for it. We postponed our wedding. |
| January/February 1999: We moved in February to a new home near our favorite grocery stop, Alfalfa's, and closer (within walking distance) to downtown. Now we can walk to do many things: restaurants, movies, art galleries, shopping, theater, etc. No chauffeur needed! |
We held a Chinese New Year & Housewarming party to celebrate, and had a nice turnout of people. Dining on dumplings and spring rolls, the Year of the Rabbit got off to a great start! |
Alexander is a Professional Trader, trading securities (stocks, stock and index options). No more computers, software, bosses, long hours, or commuting to work. He can do this from any computer anywhere in the world through the Internet. |
