If you'd like to see some pictures from my last show, AJAX, where I played Greek hero Agamemnon please visit Brian Diaz's site. He's a really good photographer. He does headshots as well. He'll be doing my newest ones when I schedule time with him. The one guy that he shot that I recognize is Geoffrey Arend. He was one of the college kids high in the car in the beginning of Super Troopers.

I have two Level Three improv class performances is coming up. See the postcard below for the location and time. It's a been a lot of fun. The Harold is a great form and I look forward to learning more about in future classes. My teacher this time around is Jason Mantzoukas. He performs with Mother and he is damn funny. I've caught him on VH1 a couple of times commenting on the 40 Most Awesomely Bad Metal Songs...Ever. I hope Danzig doesn't come kick his ass for he said about him. But Jason looks like he's packing some muscle under his clothes. So maybe he could take Danzig.

Don't Think

Sunday, 27 June 2004

Alright. So I haven't done a good job on updating this site. I want to say that I've been busy, which I have, but I've also been extremely lazy. So there's my apology. Do with it what you will.

So lately things have been good. That show with kef productions went swimmingly. And I will miss the people involved and hope to work with them in the near future.

My improv class is going well. Learning a lot of good things from Brian. He's on TV sometimes. If you watch VH1 you'll see him on Best Week Ever. And the other week I was apart of a practice session led by Rob Riggle. He's another UCB performer that was on Straight Plan for the Gay Man on Comedy Central and he was a commentator on a show on VH1 as well. Funny guy. This past Saturday I attended another practice session and I found myself in the apartment of Parker Posey. Someone in the group knows her somehow. And at first I didn't know it was Parker's apartment. But a couple of people had made some Posey jokes in their improvs and then I looked around and I saw a poster from Dazed and Confused. Then I saw an all-access pass from A Mighty Wind and then a picture of her with friends and then a baby announcement card with last name of Posey. And then it hit me where I was. So improv is opening up my mind in many different ways.

And last night I went to Otto's Shruken Head Tiki Lounge and Bar to celebrate the 30th birthday of Troma Films and Lloyd Kaufman showed up with the Toxic Avenger and Sgt. Kubukiman. It was awesome. He asked someone in to film it with his camera and I volunteered. So any footage you see of the night on Troma.com could be my handi-cam work. Only the question-answer period of the night.

And as promised I will have more details on the shocking true story of how I received 3 stitches on my forehead. But later. Still researching.

So a lot has happened since I last wrote on that Easter morn. So here are the highlights.
I finished my level 1 improv class with the UCB. I start level 2 in June.
I finsihed a one-act festival with Brass Tacks Theatre Company and have started another on-act festival with kef productions that also starts in June.
The girl I was dating didn't want to go out anymore.
I drank too many pints of Guinness and shots of Jameson and woke up in the emergency room the next morning with stitches in my left eyebrow. More on that later.
I flew to LA with a couple of friends to see my friends Scott Venters and Casey Ging marry.
I got a library card and have started re-reading The Dark Tower series by Stephen King.

So that's about it. Haven't been working a lot so just going to see improv shows at the UCB in the down time.

Happy Easter Everyone! And I hope my Jewish friends out there had a good Passover.

The last couple of weeks have been alright. My job at American Lawyer Media ended on Friday. I had been there just about 6 months. Almost as long as I've been in New York City. So it's back to the temp agency to be sent out somewhere else. It was a good assignment. I met some cool people. And I was sad to leave. But everything that has a beginning has an end.

Saw some great theatre this week also. Last Tuesday I went to see some works in progress by writers at Naked Angels Theatre. Some good stuff was read. I was a little star struck because Kenneth Lonergan was there with a reading of a new play he is working on. It's a country-western play about a country music/movie star that gives up his Hollywood life to buy and run a feed store in his hometown. Very funny. And I was sitting just a few seats away from Kenny as he listened to the actors read the scenes.

And then Friday night I went out with my special someone to see The Neo-Futuriest present "Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind® created by Greg Allen and written, directed and performed by The Neo-Futurist. It was at the Brooklyn Lyceum theatre in Brooklyn. It was great. Each week they present 30 plays that they perform in 60 minutes. After each play is performed, members of the audience call out the number of the next play they want to see. And the night we were there was the first time that all 30 plays were performed within the time limit. And it rocked. I encourage everyone to attend.

Sunday, 4 April 2004

So a lot has happened with me the last couple of weeks. I finished up Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse with Manhattan Children's Theatre. I just shot another student film on location in Red Hook, NY. I'll be in a reading of Scott Venter's new play with The Orphanage this Thursday and I be in a one-act play festival at the end of April. So things are looking up. And there are some personal things going on that making me looking down. Stuff I don't want to air on the internet. I know, there's something this man won't write about. So friends of mine, if you're worried about me or have a question about what's going on, just email or call me. But another looking up point is that I started dating someone. I won't say who yet, because I haven't her permission yet. With the content of this site, I feel I need to ask permission for name use of individuals that are in my life. So all will be revealed. It's going great though. So it helps add to the professional things going on in my life and help build the moments of personal defeat I feel.

Things have been going pretty good since my last entry. Almost a month ago. You, the masses of people reading this site should inform me when you need some more news. I'm certainly not doing the best job myself in updating this site.

I got my taxes done. Both Federal and State. And I'm getting some of what they took. Which will help pay for some stuff. Got my grandmothers done also.

But tonight. Tonight I had another great night seeing a couple of shows at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre. First I saw a funny and poignant one-woman show called Who's Your Daddy. And then came the musical extravaganza Gutenberg! The Musical! And the final show I saw tonight was The Millers. All excellent. You must go this theatre and see a show. Any show. They have something everyday of the week. And in a few weeks, I myself will be there performing with my Level 1 classmates. More on that later.

Sunday, 29 February 2004

Well, Saturday was opening day for Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse at the Manhattan Children's Theatre. It went very well. The kids loved it. And the parents liked it too. One such parent said he was tired of seeing condescending children's theatre and was relieved by our fresh production. So, it's a hit. If any of you adults out there would like to see the show check out my postcard on the news page.

We had two performances that day and then I hopped on a train to White Plains, NY where some film students picked me up to do a film at SUNY Purchase. It's called Modern Romance written and directed by Jymi Mehiel. I played a guy that rapes a hooker in a motel room. So yeah, one part of the day I'm playing a mouse in front of an audience of kids and parents, then later I'm playing a rapist on a sound stage at a university. Such Diversity!

I'm looking forward to the finished product of the film. It was a violent scene but not graphic. Although it's not stuff I can use on my reel. But experience is always valuable.

Thursday, 26 February 2004

Oh, and I started replacing breakfast and lunch with protein shakes to help slim down some. That combine with my no-alcohol 40 days should shed a few more pounds.

Wednesday, 25 February 2004

For Ash Wednesday I decided to give up alcohol, masturbating and viewing pornographic web sites. The drinking should be the easiest. Although I love Guinness and Gin & Tonics. I'll have to avoid my drinking friends on the weekends. Or make sure I have a glass of water in my hand. Most times it's the act of drinking that I enjoy instead of the alcohol. The porn sites should be the next easiest. I really don't need it in my life. The masturbation should be the hardest, because I'm single and have needs. And it really only leave me more sad in the end. Wishing I was with someone I can never have. Whether it's someone on the screen in front of me, a previous relationship or a girl I've made up. I tried this in the past and my wet dreams multiply so there is relief somewhere. But this doesn't mean I've sworn off sex for the next 40 days. Although it seems that sex has sworn off me. Which is probably all for the best anyway. Or not. I'm getting in that mood where I want to start dating again. But after my mandatory sabbatical it's hard going up to a woman and asking her out. I think I need a woman to ask me out. That would nice for a change. So we'll see how long I have to wait for that.

Dress Rehearsal Moive Release Party

presented by IN Events
sponsered by Grey Goose Vodka

So the other night I went to this moive release party for a film called Dress Rehearsal. How I got invited to this party is another story for another time.

But in the process of going to this party, my friends and I were upgraded to V.I.P. status. I arrived there with my date and we were checked through the VIP line, given our VIP bracelets and escorted to the VIP room where we met up with our friends at DAO Productions. There we enjoyed a bottle of Grey Goose Vodka and kettle corn flavored popcorn. We looked good. We felt good. And we were good. For awhile.

There are two special birthdays this month. Two of my brothers. I've got a lot. It's hard to keep up sometimes.
Cody Kendall Rice (2/13/71) lives in Washington DC with his girlfriend, Jean, and cat, Hoodoo. He works for the EPA punching numbers for the man. In his spare time he plays basketball. His teamates thinks it funny when he dresses like this. Funny thing is...he always dresses like this.

Robert Cassidy Graham (2/18/77) lives in Fayetteville, AR with his girlfriend, Michelle, and dog, Psycho. When asked what he does for a living he smiles...chuckles...then punches you in the face. So don't ask. He own a cool car. He'll talk your ass off about it. Don't get him started. I don't get to see these two men much. But I love them both. Happy Birthday!
Ok, so I'm finally putting up my journey from Texas on the web. I decided to pu it on the archive page because that's where it's going to end up anyway. So here it is. I've divided it up by states of interests.

TEXAS!

My homebase was at my grandmother's house and childhood home in Overton, TX. I moved here in the beginning days of August. During this month I visited with my grandmother who's in a nursing home. Then I took off for a couple of weeks to see my father who lives in Oregon. Spent two weeks up there. Very relaxing. Helped tear down a house. Swam in the cold waters of the North Umpqua River. Spent time with my dad, his wife and my brother Sage and some of his friends. Played frisbie golf for the first time. Then I flew back to Texas for a few days before flying out to San Fransisco to witness my cousin Spencer marry his beautiful wife Lisa. My brother Cody and his girlfriend Jean were there. Mom was there too. Representing the Kendall side of the family. We're it basically. Saw a friend of mine from the Warehouse Theatre, Taylor Valentine. Had a few beers and shots with him at a bar in San Fran. Narrowly got out of a DWI stop. All that movement traning in college. Videotaped the wedding for my cousin. Outdoors overlooking one of the many bays in that area. Got rip-roaring drunk at the reception. Was really attracted to one of the waitresses at the Bed & Breakfast the reception was in. Followed her to a bar after the reception with Cody, Jean and Mom. But got even more drunk there. Too drunk to hit on her. Flew back to Texas the next day with a horrible hangover. Three days later I had my car packed up, said a sad goodbye to my grandmother and hit the road.

MISSISSIPPI!!

I stopped in Fulton, MS outside of Tupelo (true birthplace of Elvis) to visit my good friend Kenny. I met Kenny in junior college and we've kept up with eachother over the years. Kenny rented me a motel room, so he wouldn't subject me to the situation he deals with at home caring for an ailing father. I thought that was very nice of him, although I would have stayed anywhere. I was just glad to see him. Plus it did give us a place to hang out and drink beer and talk without the distractions of a bar. That's about all we did. Drank beer and talked. Played pinball at a friends house. Watched old episodes of Aqua Teen Hunger Force at same friends place. And video games there. It was a good time. I tried to convince Kenny that a diet including a fiber supplement would do him a world of good. He refused to believe.

FLORIDA!!!

Yes, I know. Florida is not on the way to New York city. I have some friends there from OU so I thought I'd make a small detour. Visited with my friends Amy and Sheridan. Two cool chicks I knew at OU. Amy introduced me to spelt. A early ancestor to our more modern wheat bread. Also shared many gin and tonics. Too many in fact that lead to a stress relieving session that I won't talk about because I'm not that type of guy. But it happened again sober, so I can't really blame the Gin & Tonics.

South Carolina!!!!

Greenville, SC is where I spent a year learning to be a better actor. I stopped by the Warehouse Theatre to visit with Connie. She is the heartbeat of that organization. When she leaves it will take a search committee headed by God to find a proper replacement. Met the new artistic director. Found out where the program was heading. Saw a production of Death of a Salesman. Stayed with fellow Overton expatriot Wendy Gillem. She was living there when I moved to Greenville. It's amazing where people from your past pop up. Got to play with her daughter. Cute kid.

Washington D.C.!!!!!

This is where my brother Cody and his girlfriend Jean live with their cat Hoodoo. Nice place they bought just north of the capital building. Spent a little extra time here. Saw an adaptation of Alice in Wonderland. Had some good dinners. Walked around the mall. Saw some good art. Visited with another Journeyman from my Warehouse Days: Vanessa Vaughn. She actually lived very close to my brother. So I walked over there on a rainy night. Enjoyed a couple glasses of wine and talked about our pasts and where our futures were going. Looked at her photography and ate mac & cheese.

NEW YORK CITY!!!!!!

So then I arrived here on September 16th. Moved into my friend Marisa's apartment. Slept on her couch. Found a job. Did a play. Met up with old friends. Found my own place to live. Sold my car. Did some more plays. And now I'm looking for what's next.

Friday, 22 August 2003

So I'll catch you up on what I did for my move.

I had some great good-byes from friends in Houston. I've been attending a service for young adults at Chapelwood United Methodist Church. Head over to The Table to see what they are about. Good group of folks. I joined Chapelwood back in January and started helping with the planning of The Table. For my lat night I spoke about where God is leading. The answer is that I have no clue where He is leading me. And then after that everyone gathered around me, laid hands on and a gave a blessing for my travels and life to come in NYC. The tears poured down.

Then a few days later my best friend from high school, Alan "Bam Bam" Kitchings, organized a bowling party at Jillians. So friends came out, bowled a few frames and drank some beer. Good times. I slept on Alan's floor when I first moved into Houston. And I will miss his company and the laughter he provided me.

Then I moved out of my apartment. I'm still waiting for my deposit check. And booked it up to Overton to store my stuff at my grandmother's house until I make the bigger move to NYC.

Then I flew to Oregon to visit my dad. It's really beautiful up there. Lots of moutains, hills, rivers and animals. He and his wife live on the side of a mountain (or maybe it's just a big hill). Really didn't do too much. Just hung out. We did travel down to Ashland to The Oregon Shakesparre Festival. The shows were sold out but we stood around trying to get tickets for Midsummer Night's Dream. But it wasn't looking too good so we took tickets to The Piano Lesson by August Wilson. It was excellent. And it was refreshing to see some good theatre.
My younger brother Sage came down with some friends. We went swimming in various areas of the North Umpqua River 4 days in row. I have a slight tan. The water was cool and refresing and it was quite cool jumping off rocks in the water. So I just flew back from there and am sorting my junk to see what makes the trip to New York with me and what gets stored here. I sold a bunch in Houston but still have a lot. And for labor weekend I'm flying off to San Fran to participate in my cousin Spencer Lynn's wedding. That's it for now.

Thursday, 17 July 2003

Well, the highlight of my week happened last Saturday. I went to a friends wedding. So please congratulate Mike and Anna Davila. They were married at St. Anne's Catholic church. It was my first Catholic wedding. But I'm Methdist and we share several aspects of service. Communion was served, but I did not partake. Mainly because it was for Catholics only. But I should have taken it anyway because I believe that the Lord's table is open to anyone who is hungry. And what can the Catholic church do to me?

And then came the reception. I have to thank Mike and Anna for the open bar. And I hope I wasn't an embarassment to them as they left on their honeymoon with me yelling, "Lay that pipe Mike! Lay that pipe." Which was a tribute to "Bachelor Party" starring Tom Hanks.

Then I went home and slept for a couple of hours before heading out to Barfly to meet up with my Aggie friends. And we had a Whoop of good time. I saw some folks that I hadn't seen in awhile, danced a little and drank a lot of water to make up the wine I drank at the reception.

Thursday, 10 July 2003

Well, I finally had an audition. And a it was a big one. It was for a HBO pilot by Richard Linklater (Slacker, Dazed and Confused) in Austin. So I headed out after work on Monday and stayed with long time friend Tony Smith and his wife Rhonda. I went to Beth Sepko Casting on Tuesday. Met and read with Beth. Did one read, took some direction from her and then read it again. I did best I could. I don't have a lot of experience in front of the camera. Nor much auditioning in front of the camera. Which is my fault. I should have been taking classes to become better at that but I haven't made the best choices in my career. So anyway. After I read I walked out. Haven't heard but I may never. Most of the others reading for the part of Vince, a career fry cook, were from the same agency I'm with so when I add in all the other agencys in Austin, Dallas and Houston I have just as good a chance as anyone. But I did run into George Brock who directed me in Book of Days by Lanford Wilson last year. So it was good to see him.

So after that I went back to Tony and Rhonda's apartment and plugged into Enter The Matrix. I've been wanting to play this video game since I heard about but, alas, I have no game system to play it on. Actually the night before when I arrived in Austin I stayed up after Tony went to bed playing. So I didn't get far but I had fun nonetheless.

And before I treked back to Houston I had dinner with Tony, Rhonda, Todd Smith (Tony's brother) and highschool bud Graham Mitchell. I hadn't seen Graham since 1994 at the UIL One Act Play State contest in Austin. I was there performing in Black Angel and Graham was a computer science major at UT. So it was good to see him and talk about things new and old.

Monday, 6 July 2003

Well, folks a lot has happened since my last entry which was back in March. So I'll catch you up on what's been happening since then.

First I've been to some concerts.

Foo Fighters
Dave Grohl and company rocked the Reliant Areana back in April. I've now seen 2/3 of Nirvana. (I don't consider Pat Smear a member of Nirvana since he didn't play on any of the albums.) Sometime before of which I can't remember I saw Eyes Adrift consisting of the drummer from Sublime, the guitar player brother of Meat Puppets and Krist Noveselic of Nirvana. So that's as close to Nirvana I'm ever going to get. So Foo Fighters did a great job. The only thing that sucked was my seat. I was pretty far from the rock. I bought tickets in the pre-sale and I wanted as close to the pit area as possible but I didn't. So even though I wanted to see the band a little better that didn't stop me from hearing some great music. They played just about any song you would want to hear from them spanning their four CDs and one of their singles from the Orange County Soundtrack. Dave is a funny man. He was making jokes and telling stories all throughout the set. Sometime inbetween songs. He'd be playing a riff and then stop and tell some story. And a great band opened for them called Cave In on their same label.
Red Hot Chili Peppers
After seeing the Red Hot Chili Peppers I let go of a grudge I was holding against a friend of mine. About 3 years ago I was Greenville at the Warehouse Theatre and the Chili Peppers came through town with Foo Fighters opening for them. I wanted to go so bad but I had been cast in a play that conflicted with the concert. But my roomate was able to go. Except he wasn't really a Chili Peppers fan and didn't even know who the Foo Fighters were. AND he got to get into the sound board area because of another friend who got him a pass. I was so jealous. But now that I've seen the Chili Peppers and Foo Fighters (although on different dates and venues) I have let that go. The music has set me free.
So anyway. Snoop Dogg opened for the Chili Peppers. And it was damn good. He started off with a cover of Metallica's "Sad But True." Then went into some of his old favorites and blasted out the set with a sonic demolition of distorted guitars and raps.
Then Flea, John, Chad and Anthony took the stage and ripped into one of the best live shows I've seen in awhile. Playing a bunch off the new album "By The Way", then heading into some favorites like "Give It Away" and "Under the Bridge." I was with my best friend Alan and we had a great time.
The White Stripes
Ohh man! The White Stripes have become my new favorite band. And they proved that in their concert at The Verizon Wireless Theatre. And since I've tried to hear just about everything they've recorded every song they played was one I wanted to hear. Their sound was just and raw yet polished as I hear on the albums. And Meg White drumming was better live. Sometime on the albums she rushed the beat. But nothing was wrong their performance that night. Jack White beat the hell out of the strings unleashed a maelstorm of sound on my ear drums. And their encore just wasn't a couple of favorite songs but a mini second set of songs that blew me out of the water. And the opening act was Whirldwind Heat. They consisted of a drummer, bass player and singer who added a Moog Synth every now and then. And their music is not for the faint of heart.
The Reverent Horton Heat
This concert was a pyscho-billy freak out. For those of you that aren't familer with the Heat's music it is based on the rock-a-billy sound of early rock-n-roll from the 50s and adding in a huge of punk rock from modern times. So the guys dressed like greaser and girls with Betty Paige hairdos are moshing along the rock coming from the trio of gitar, upright bass and drums. Beer and sweat was flying everywhere. People were swing dancing and one guy fell down and knocked his head pretty hard. But it wasn't just the floor he hit, but the broken glass, puddles and beer and sweat, and ciggarets and he head fell on. I was dancing like I hadn't dance in a long time. I was soaked with sweat myself and tired as hell when it was all over.
And I've seen a few movies. X-2, The Matrix Reloaded (twice so far). Funny story about seeing tose two movies. I went on the same night for a litle double feature. Now I drink a lot of water throughout the day and I had gone to the bathroom before the movie started but my bladder filled up as I saw Wolverine and company kicked some ass. So after the movie is over I head to the head. Several other men filed in with me and we all started about the same time. But I out lasted them all. A couple of other men came in after the others had finished and I was still going after they left. I was a relieved man. In more ways than one. I should have timed myself to see how long it took me to extract all that urine.

so other than what's listed here I've been working and hanging out with friends. And getting ready to move which is coming up at the end of the month.

I moved to New York City.
Who: Me and I guess my brother and cousin. But me most deffinently

What: I moving to NYC

When: September 2003

Where: In my car.

Although really the where is NYC but I already covered that in the what section.

Why: Well...I'm not getting married like I thought. My acting career is lagging. My lease in Houston ends in July. I will be visiting my dad in August and I'm going to a wedding around Labor Day weekend.

How: With what money I have moving through states like Mississppi, Florida, South Carolina, Washington D.C., Pennslyvania and ending in New York. I have friends in those places so I won't need to rent a room.

So that's the basics so far. As more develops more will appear here for viewing.

Needs: Yes I have needs. Right now the most important thing is a place to sleep when I get there. If you or anyone who knows me would like to board me until I find my own place or a roomate please email me.
I also need a job so if you know of an employer needing skilled labor email me.
Also I'll be looking for a new agent.
Basically if there's anything you would like to contribute to my moving process than email me.

Thanks.

Today in 1879 Albert Einstein was born. He holds a special place in my heart because I've played him twice in Steve Martin's Picasso at the Lapin Agile. Once at OU and the second at The Warehouse Theatre Click the images to enlarge.

Saturday I and a few others from the Chapelwood Methodist Church went to The Covenant House in Houston. They help runnaways get back on their feet. We took some of the 18-20 year olds bowling. These kids are in some pretty tough situations and this simple act of faith really got some smiles on their faces. Hopefully took their mind off their problems for a second. The Covenant House has some great staff and great facilities. They have different programs for teens in crisis and a program that helps them learn to live in the real world. Sometimes I think I need that. So if you know a teen on the streets tell them about The Covenant House. If that URL doesn't work, email me listed below.

Over the weekend I saw Dave Chappelle live. He was hilarious. Irreverent but funny. I would give you some highlights but it's too much cussing and things that wouldn't sound right coming out of a white man.

Friday, 21 February 2003

I'm heading home this weekend to do some business for my grandmother and see some friends. And did you know that on this date in 1967 Ford Motor Company recalls 217,000 cars to check brakes and steering. The Big Three Killed My Baby!

Monday, 17 February 2003

My job is not the most mind stimulating thing I done. So I listen to a lot of music on my head phones. I recommend this to everyone to listen to everything they have on head phones. I hear so many things I don't usually when I listen to music on my stereo or in my car. Rock on!

Saturday, 15 February 2003

Today in 1564 Galileo Galilei was born. One time in highschool I was heading out for a night on the town with a good friend of mine. I wore a wig that night even though I had plenty of hair back then. My grandmother asked me to take it off. I said that if she could wear one so could I. Then she asked, "Starr, why did you pick us?" I asked her what she meant. She said that when I was flying up in the air why did I pick this family. That really freaked me out so I said I didn't know and got out of there.

What did this have to do the birth of Galileo?

The World Has Turned And Left Me Here

By Weezer

The World has turned and left me here
Just where I was before you appeared
And in your place an empty space
Has filled the void behind my face
I just made love with your sweet memory
One thousand times in my head
You said you loved it more than ever
You said You and me turned away turning further every day

The World has turned and left me here
Just where I was before you appeared
And in your place an empty space
Has filled the void behind my face
I talked for hours to your wallet photograph
And you just listening
You left enchanted by my laugh
Or maybe you didn't
You and me turned away turning further every day

Do you believe what I sing now

Wednesday, 12 February 2003

Well, sorry the jump in entries. Not much going on. I went home last Friday after work. Got sick on the trip. Slept too hot one night and then too cold the next so now I've got the sniffles.
So it's rather boring in my life right now. Saturday I'm order concert for The Red Hot Chili Peppers. Then life should pick up.
I hope I'm not dissappointing anyone. I thought this whole ride was gonna be a lot more exciting. I did my taxes. That's exciting isn't it?

Monday, 3 February 2003

I started my new job today. I found out Friday from my staffing agent that I'd be working for a mortgage company. Full time and pay I can live on. I'm happy. Take my picture.

Sunday, 2 February 2003

I went to church this morning at Chapelwood United Methodist Church. I joined the week before. I've been feeling pretty lonely so I wanted to meet some new folks and I wanted to belong to something. And I got up in time to go to Sunday school. That is a feat. Met some nice folks and I look forward to going back. Eat chinese food after church. That's beginning to become a tradition on Sunday's for me.

Saturday, 1 February 2003

I woke up about noon and turned on the TV. I wondered if any debris had fallen in my grandmother's backyard in Overton and what that would feel like finding it. A little more connected then the disconnection I feel from watching it happen on TV. I remember when I woke up one day, turned on the TV and saw towers being hit and knocked down. Or when I woke one day, turned on the TV and saw people driving boats throught Downtown Houston. I guess the important thing is I keep waking up and turning on the TV.

Friday, 31 January 2003

Well, today was rather interesting. I got a job through my agent. Not a camera role though. I was a costumed character. There was a hardware convention in Houston and I was hired to play the Safety Bug with this company that makes safety products. I guess I was needed to help promote the booth and I handed out earplugs. The costume looked like some bug you might find on The Power Rangers. I was wearing a black unitarde with foam muscles and then a green leotarde with more padding. And then a fiberglass upper body and a $5000 helmet. It was hot as hell. I probably sweat a couple of gallons. When I got home I took a good long shower and took a huge nap.

So I'm unemployed right now so my days consist of So that's my life right now. So really I don't need any updates until something new happens in my life. Cheers.

Gavin Kendall

Dear Family and Friends.

This is a joint letter from Ken and Starr Kendall.

I have some unfortunate news concerning my brother Gavin Kendall. Gavin had been missing for several days. Which is nothing new. Usually he would go missing for at least a month during a typical bender. But yesterday his body was found face down in a gutter. Apprently he had choked on half a stalk of asparagus. Toxicology reports indicated a record blood-alcohol level of 4.0 BAL. Breathing usually stops at .5 BAL. How he was able to survive anything over that and end up with a stalk of asparagus in is throat is a mystery to the scientific community. Although sad, at least he will be famous for something.

I'm still going through shock at this point. Gavin may have been my evil twin brother, but he was still my brother. And I loved him very deeply. Despite the fact that his main goal in life was to sabotage mine.

He left a will that I found on my hard drive in folder called "Who Cares." He ask that a money be donated to an organization called "Society of Urban City Kids Entering Rehab." I'll have more info on that as well if you would like to donate.

Thank you for your love, support and prayers.

I have done something totally out of character. On a dare, I gave up drinking for Lent. That bastard of a brother, Starr, dared me to give up drinking for Lent. I don't remember this, because, apparently, I was drunk at the time of the dare. So it's been awhile since I've had a drink. I stopped counting. It was getting too depressing. I've dropped weight. I'm remembering to do things assigned to me by my employer. I'm not sly remarks to people that can cleary kick my ass. I hate it. My friends hate it too. They're use to the wild and crazy Gavin whose piss is bottled and sold in England. So once Easter morning comes, I'm throwing back several. And then I'm going to puke and piss all over my brother. Pictures to come of that event.

Yes, where were we...

Living and Working in NYC

I believe I have lucked out once again. Although for me "lucking out" means waking up in the morning considering the hell I put through myself on a daily basis. But I digress.

I live in a 50 story highrise on the Upper West Side of Manhanttan. Rent free. Utility free. And just about anything I want is provided for me. All I do is run a few errands and provide certain services to a just past middle age, female New York City socialite. Errands are the usual things one might do for someone that lets them leech off them like I do. Walk the cats. Yes, I said it...walk the cats. Dry cleaning. Schedule events. Kinda like a personal assistant.

Now the services I provide are a little trickier. As I mentioned before, this lady is a socialite, so she is invited to a lot of parties and other gatherings. And since she is widowed she likes a little company when attending these social events. So I put on my tux, call for the limo and drink socially while standing around some of the most famous New Yorkers the world knows. Notice I said stand. The Madame doesn't like it when I talk as most of the things that I say are vulgarities. Who can blame her.

And yes, the services don't just stop there. I know what you're thinking. Yes, I live in this woman's apartment. Yes, I escort her to parties. AND YES...I finish the job. But I would rather not talk about that. I know...Me...Gavin will not talk about something that will sure to offend you. Because it offends me too. Which is also rare. I will say this: I tape my pay stub to the headboard everynight to remind me what I doing her for.

So I've been in this city for a little over two months. Pretty cool. But first I must update you on how I got here and then I'll continue on what I'm doing.

Travel From Texas

I couldn't drive in the car with Starr. Too much crap in the car. Of course none of it was mine so it pissed me off all the more. So Starr took off for New York after we got back from our cousin Spencer's wedding in San Fran. More on that later. I wasn't gonna walk like Ken and I didn't have enough money to buy a plane ticket. So I had to take the most appalling form of public transportation: THE BUS. I took a backpack of clothes and toiletries, one of Starr's credit cards and a knife. The essentials.

Thus began my tour of terror.

Apparently I was really drunk when I bought my ticket and got on the bus and ended up in Nevada. Actually my ticket was to take me to Oregon, but after I woke up hung over the bus driver threw me off for lack of a better vocabulary and whipping him in the face with my penis.
So in Nevada I decided that I had had enough of degenerates like myself on the bus and bought a train ticket. I tried going for a first class ticket, but for some reason Starr put a spending limit on his credit card. Since I didn't want the company calling him I sprung for coach. Trains are a step up from buses. Not much but a bit. They had a dining car at least and the train stations aren't as seedy as the bus stops. Although in certain altered states, bus stops make good entertainment. But one thing I need to learn is not buy transportation tickets when I'm drunk on gin martinis. My next stop was somewhere in the middle of Montana. This time I was thrown off the train for an un-paid bar tab, a missing jar of olives and pulling the emergency stop cord. Rather tame I think. Oh and pissing on the conductors shoes. That last one got me a nice shiner, which was a good excuse to wear my eye patch.
Luckily a freight train came by and I hopped on that. Took me into Iowa. That state didn't welcome me too well. What state does? Except the state of shock. I got turned around and hitch hiked into Kansas. And let me tell you, I hate Kansas. But while I was there I came across these two bums hanging by this dead looking tree on the side of a pretty deserted looking road. They mistook me for someone they were waiting on. I asked if they had any food and one offered me a turnip he'd been keeping in his pockets. I passed and went on my way.
After that my trip was pretty uneventful. I hitch most of the way. Mostly in trunks of cars. I guess people didn't trust me in the passenger seat. But at least it was a straight shot to New York City. I made it to New Jersey and took a boat across the river to the city. And I've been here ever since.

Hello all. Well, to update you on what I've been doing won't take long.

Drinking, sleeping and causing trouble.

That's about it. I went to that Rev. Horton Heat concert with Starr. It rocked the house. And I was contributing the mayhem myself slinging my Lone Star beers as I danced. And I've been helping Starr and Ken pack for this move to NYC. I can't wait to get out of this hell hole of a city and state so I can bad mouth wherever we live next.

How strange is this? I'm starting to remember what I did on St. Patrick's Day. It's coming in patches so this may be a on-going report.

So apparently, when I woke up at 3:30am I did begin drinking that bottle of gin. I was hungover from the night before so it didn't take long for me to get drunk. Also the carbs in bread help to carry alcohol to the blood stream. So as I drank I ate a loaf of bread. But mixing gin and bread didn't go too well so I threw up the bread leaving more room for gin. I figured the gin was lonely so to celebrate the day I added some Jameson Irish whiskey to the keep the party going. Once I finshed that bottle I threw it at Starr hitting him in the head. He wasn't too happy. He claimed to be having some dream about a girl. So he asked me to leave. So I did. But not before I rigged a bucket of my piss on the door to fall on him when he goes into the bathroom.

Outside it was crazy. There was nothing but silence. There was a litle sound but not much. It was making crazy so I hit a few cars to get some car alarms going. Some sound felt better. So, next I remember is walking down to the bus stop and bumming a ride by pretending to be sick. That's it for now.

I am so pissed off. I missed St. Patrick's Day. I don't know how I did this. I had a great day planned. And it's over. Now I have to wait another year to piss green. Damn.

I woke up early that Monday morning. Around 3:30am to get a head start. I grabbed the bottle of gin next to my sleeping mat and the next thing I know, it's 10am on Tuesday. Damn! Damn! Damn!

Monday, 3 March 2003

Well, I had quite a weekend. I went out with Starr and some friends of his from A&M. Whoop! We saw Dave Chappelle. The star of Chappelle's Show on Comedy Central. Bi-otch! It was the funniest stuff I'd heard in a long time. I don't see a lot of comics so this was a treat. I highly recommend watching his show.

After the show the fine women were handing out stickers that would get you cover free to Bar Houston. So me and the boys went and there was interesting eye candy. One word: Breast! From the girls dancing to the crappy music to the bar maids serving cold beer. I have no self confidence when it comes to women so we finally left when we could take it no more. There's a Mardi Gras party Tuesday but Starr won't let me have the keys to the car and I sure not taking the bus so I miss out on that nipple busting good time. Oh well.

Today Fred Rogers died. He was the creator and star of Mr. Rogers Neighborhood which ran for years on PBS.

I am very sorry that the man has passed on. He brought a lot to children through the medium of television and the next statements have nothing to do with him personally.

BUT

You have to question a man who owns a house that he only visits for 30 minutes a day. Where is his real home? What is his home life like. Does he have a wife and kids? It must not be very pleasant with the Mrs. Rogers and the Rogers kids. Maybe that's why instead of going straight home from work he goes off to the "other" house to play in a make-believe world. Or maybe he doesn't have a family. Maybe his home is a one room apartment on the crappy side of town and he's comes to "Mr. Roger's Neighborhood" to play with his imaginary friends and give life lessons to an empty room. I've done that before. Locked up in my room talking to girls who will never hear me. I know how it feels Mr. Rogers.

And where the hell does that damn train really go. We only see Mr. Rogers make believe world where King Friday reigns supreme. But in reality that train goes somewhere and it seems to me that its got an hidden agenda. I'm thinking something along the lines of shipping cocaine or heroin across the border ounces at a time. Blow that whistle!

But hey. If that's what made the man happy and wasn't hurting anyone than it really is a beautiful day in the neighborhood.

Won't you be my neighbor?

Starr got some new clothes this week. He has a problem with getting his nice ones dirty. The fool still hasn't figured that one out. So he got these dockers that are coated with teflon so it repells water and dirt. Well, I decided to try these mothers out. It's been pretty gritty here with lots of rain and mud. So I suited up and rolled around like the pig I am. Those damn things work. The only thing that got dirty was my head, hands and feet. So I disrobed and wiped off the dirt in Starr's clean underwear drawer.

So I went to the anti-war rally that Ken has been yapping about. Even though I condone chaos, I oppose war because if everyone is dead from Bush starting the next world war then I wouldn't have anyone to annoy.

The rally was great. Although too many special interest were involved. Everyone was there to support anti-war and world peace

BUT,

A communist spoke saying he supported peace but abolishing capitalism was the only way to do it.
The Nation of Islam was there saying they supported peace but please come see Minister Louis Farrakahn next week.
Give peace a chance but legalize hemp.
I want peace but I'm not going to stick my hidden agenda in the message. Yeah, Bush is going to listen to that.
"Predident Bush. Don't go to war with Iraq...AND...please visit my website."
There are 365 days in the year. Sometimes 366. Support one issue at a time.
Saturday Night Live did a sketch where this happened. Life imitating art.

Love In Venice

By Henry Rollins

I want a woman who will pull me from extinction into a room of dangerous light
A woman who dares me to taste her every pore
A woman who will lift the sweat from my body
A woman who will caterize my wounds with her touch
A woman who can never get enough of me
A wild eyed temptation from the street who sees the burning world in my eyes
A woman whose every moment screams for me
A woman who says...
BREAK AND ENTER ME LIKE A THIEF
RIDE ME!
RIDE MY RAGING STORM SWEPT HEART

Today I went to the library. Walking in I noticed a Jaguar with it's lifhts on. My first thought was, "To Hell with that rich bastard. I should kick in the lights and piss on it." Then I thought, "What would Jesus do?" So I walked inside and up to the help desk. I said there was a car outside with it's lights on. The aide said they didn't have a intercom system and she couldn't do anything. Then I thought, "What would Satan do?" So I jumped up on the help desk and yelled out who owned the jag outside and that it's lights were on. The aide told me to get down and be quiet so I started acting like a monkey. Well...to make a long story short I was thrown out and was able to dodge the cops declaring santuary in the Presbyterian Church next door. Boy, won't Starr be surprised when he tries to check out a book.

Monday, 3 February 2003

Starr got a job finally. Now I won't have to sell candy on the street corners to idiots who think I'm homeless.

Saturday, 1 February 2003

Today sucked. So I drank. This is not much different from any other day except I wasn't bitter about the situation I'm in. Today my problems didn't measure up.

Thursday, 30 January 2003

I woke up today and didn't know where I was. A cat was pawing at me. I had blood and dirt matted to my face and hurt all over. Luckily I was just outside Starr's apartment. I crawled up the stairs and he let me in. Apparently I got wasted and re-enacted that scene in Fight Club where Brad Pitt throws Ed Norton down the flight of stairs but in the video camera you see it's really Ed throwing himself down the stairs. And then I beat myself up. Welcome to Jackass! Hello, I'm Gavin Kendall and this is Personal Fight Club. Starr is a very understanding brother.

Tuesday, 29 January 2003

I started my day off with my daily routine with my morning breakfast which consist of a tablespoon of fiber laxative in 8 oz. of Bombay Blue Sapphire Gin. Let me tell ya. That gets your insides pumping. Then I took a walk while Starr went to look for a job.

Well I guess it's time I logged back on and let everyone know who is interested what I've been up to the last few months since I left Texas in July on my jounrney to NEW YORK CITY.
I have to say that NYC is a strange and unusual place full of wonder and amazement. On my previous journeys I had never traveled here before and I am truly sorry to my soul. Although it lacks in comparison to the vast open fields and skies of the southwest, the city still offers sense of calm and quiet along with bouts of pure adrenaline. So!

Travel from Texas

I left Texas a full two months before Starr and Gavin because I knew I needed time to get here since I was walking the whole way. Maybe not a straight direct line to New York and that's why I left so early.
It's not important where I walked so I won't go into a lot of detail. But it was all beautiful and I met a lot of interesting people. I had a copy of Woody Guthrie's auto-biography to keep me company and sort of guide me along my journey.

I was reading over Gavin's travels. He failed to mention a bit of the last part of his trip. It actually involved all three of us converging in one area of the country.
It was shortly after Gavin left Kansas by his account. He passed through Mississippi and stopped to see a mutual friend of him and Starr's, named Kenny Barnes. Starr had just left the care of Mr. Barnes. After a night of drinking till dawn, mass amounts of playing video games and watching re-runs of Sealab 2021 and Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Kenny revealed to Gavin that Starr was stopping in Greenville, SC after visiting friends in Florida. Enraged by the fact the he messed up his trip to New York Gavin decided to meet up with Starr in South Carolina and sabotage his trip. He didn't tell Kenny this because he knew Kenny, knowing Gavin's bouts of angst, would have called and warned Starr. Gavin simply stood up, grabbed a bottle of Thunderbird and started for the door. When ask by Kenny where he was going Gavin simply replied, "To capture the Yeti!" and dissappeared into the night.

Now at this time I was in North Dakota. Now somehow I found about this. I had about 2 days to intercept Gavin in South Carolina. That's close to 1500 miles. And for a man like me that doesn't carry money as a symbol of faith in the kindness of others, it's a long distance in a short amount of time. But somehow I got to Gavin just in the nick of time. Starr was in the back parking lot of the Warehouse Theatre where he had been a journeyman actor after graduation. There's a small creek just beyond that and Gavin was hiding there waiting for Starr to show. Starr pulls up and is fishing for something in the car, so he is crouching into the car with his butt up in the air as Gavin approached. I rounded the corner, saw Gavin with a knife in his hand, ran with more strength than Achilles and tackled Gavin before he reached Starr. Starr jumped back and Gavin and I wrestled for bit. I pinned him down to the ground, plucked the knife out his hand and drove into the asphalt inches away from Gavin's head. Gavin froze for a second as he focused his inebriated eyes on a 8 inch switch blade embedded halfway into the asphalt. We both stood up and all three of our eyes met. No one said a thing to anyone. Then without notice we all turned and walked away in separate directions.

A week or two later I arrived in New York City.

Monday, 6 July 2003

I'm leaving today for New York City. Just me and back pack. I'm walking the whole way. Gives me time to think about what's next in life and how I can help. Much like those fellas in Stephen King's novel The Stand. The ones that walk to Las Vegas to confront the Walking Dude himself.

So from now until I get there I won't have any updates. So see you then. Love. Ken.

I finally got my pictures back from the anti-war rally I went to back on Feb. 15.

Today are the Ides of March. Best known in the play Julius Ceasar by William Shakespeare. The wise and blind soothsayer warns a proud ruler of a certain day that will be his downfall.

This has a lot to say on current events. Bush has set a March 17 deadline for Saddamn to have a certain number of missles destroyed. But will it be enough and soon enough. Or will American be sent to war anyway. I think the president should beware of his own Ides of March. I hope the presidents pride come back and destroy him along with the rest of the country. And on St. Patrick's Day of all days. Hopefully that day I can celebrate my joys instead of drowning my sorrows in a glass of Guinness. Here's to you.

Monday, 3 March 2003

Saturday I traveled with Starr and other memebers of Chapelwood United Methodist Church to Covenant House. It's a teen shelter with different programs to help kids that haven't been given a lot of opportunities get some good guidance and skills for living their life in less stressful situations. We took 'em bowling and ate pizza. It was fun. Bowled my best game ever. 120. I'm lucky if I can break a hundred. It was a good time. Just friendly folk taking some kids out for a good time.

Saturday, 15 February 2003

Pictures of the event are on the way.

The war rally was a big success. There were around 3000 different races, sexes, beliefs, religions, thoughts and ideas. It was great to see that myself.
Hopefully somebody was listening.
It's hard not be get angry and let that anger spread when I'm dealing with something that I believe in.
No, I'm not happy with our current administration and how they are dealing with the situation. But then again, I'm not the president. I have no idea what that feels like or what weight would be on my shoulders if I was. So I really can't get angry. All I can do is love more. And say that war sucks.
So to my brothers and sisters in the world I say Love More. Give someone a hug. Spread some joy. And work to bring more peace to the world.
